Today. I've had this thing for quite a while now and it about time I try it. I honestly think its going to be a little too much for me but I need to find out :) I've been really happy with the Jazzb in my Strat now so thats another reason I have tried it yet. We'll see.

Hey bud, if it ends up being not to your liking and get rid let me know and I'll take it back if you like? Hopefully though it won'y be as overthetop as you think.

Re: The Crazy 8 is going in

So far so good. I definitely do not dislike like it. I actually like it much more than I figured. I figured it to be pretty hot with a lot of top and bottom but no. It sounds huge in my 90's poly'd Strat. This guitar is fairly compressed to start with, not overly bright, so I'm sure it would be different in say my Godin LG. Nice even eq, full bass, mids with a little less top end. It over powers my 7k Zhang singles a little more than the Jazzb and obviously looks totally out of place in a white pick guard :) The Jazz compresses more under gain which I think is what I noticed most. I not sure if in the end it'll stay or not but I think I'll just leave it in for a good while and see how much I miss the Jazz.
This definitely a great addition to the PATB family. It has the same full open vibe and can take a ton of gain and still give some note clarity. It fits perfectly between the PATB3 and the 1. I'm surprised more guys are talking theirs up here :)

Black knobs, black switch-tip, some black covers on those singles and that would look freakin' awesome.

By the way, what kind of Strat is that? American, MIM, etc? That blue colour is really cool.

Its a 94 MIA 40th anniversary. The color is kind of strange, is appears blue but looks kind or purple up close sometimes. Not sure on the color name though. My wife likes to tell me I have a purple guitar :)

I think it looks good also, it has a "I ain't your Daddy's strat..." look.

I love the Crazy 8, I think it may be my perfect pup. I am a fan of the JB with a single 500K control also, but the Crazy 8 is my go-to sound.

Looks gorgeous!! and the black pup makes it look like when superstrats were first being made by hotrodding with a bucker!!

I LoVE my crazy 8!! Look forward to the review after practice...

Damn, that PA style pickup makes it look like a super-super strat. Like a modification to a modification :bigok:

Re: The Crazy 8 is going in

Which one has tighter bass and more clarity? 1,3,or Crazy 8?

They are all tight but the 1 & 8 definitely have more bass and I'd say the 8 is probably the tightest. As far as clarity , do you mean cleans or under gain? The whole PATB line excels at clarity at any gain level which is what I think gives them a unique feel to them. The 3 being the lower wind is probably the nicest clean with the 8 being next, which really surprised me.

I ran the 8 through my Rivera last night for a while and am still surprised how wrong I was about this pickup. Its a very strong pickup and feels very powerful. It takes quite a bit to get it to compress which is what I'm missing most about the Jazz. It can take a ton of gain or boost, like the whole PATB line, and still be very solid and doesnt get all loose. The looseness under gain is what I'm comfortable with and I realized my other 2 guitars with a PG and Jazz pickups give me that too. My whole rig is kind of set around that tone and for the first time in long time I had to eq my amp to get the best out of the Crazy 8. After that is was fantastic. Not sure if I'll want to have to make those changes evertime I want to grab another guitar though.
