The Curse of the V-twin

Hey.
I have a v-twin, and use it very often, but, as some of you may know, there is the irritating sound cutoff when you switch from the v-twin to bypass. Does anyone know a way to mod a v-twin to get rid of this? or would an ABY switch that leads to the v-twin, and then directly to the amp work better?

Re: The Curse of the V-twin

External Bypass switch, the problem is only around when you use the onboard one. Any 1 -button/2 setting footswitchshould work, there´s a jack on the backside for it ;)

Or just do it like me and don´t use the bypass :D:D

so by using the external switcing outputs, theres no sound loss when bypassing? hmm, interesting, thanks!

I wonder why a preamp pedal should ever be bypassed. The Tubeman (H&K's version for the V-Twin) doesn't even have a bypass.

Some people use it as a distortion/overdrive and not as a dedicated preamp.

Re: The Curse of the V-twin

Just use a single looper pedal; you can build one for next-to-nothing.

I used to have several that I built, but now I use a multi-looper to control all of my non true-bypass pedals.

THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTION, I'M GONNA MAKE ONE! so, with true bypass, there is no sounds loss when switching back and forth? ex: i play a note, activate or deactive the bypass, will my note keep going the entire time without cutting off for a second?

I´m assuming you mean the "dropout" when switching, and yes, an external switch aleviates the problem. Just please don´t ask me to explain why ;) :D:D

With a simple looper, the point is that you leave the v-twin or whatever on while playing; the looper is a very simple passive device, so it's a case of "the signal is going this way" or "the signal is going that way". You dont even need a battery (unless you want an led). There will be no delay when switching :)

Honestly, I think you'd be better off using the external footswitch jack.

Using a loop selector for that is kinda redundant, since the V-Twin switches fine using the external footswitch.

Re: The Curse of the V-twin

hey, zerb, i made a simple little ground to tip switch to activate the bypass, but i still hear the sound drop off... screaming daisy- this is why i am going to try the looper

If it still drops off with the external switch, then I guess it makes sense to make a looper. I was mainly suggesting to avoid the looper because of the popping you get when using TB.

You´re kidding, right? :saeek:

Seriously, I solved it that way on mine, and have heard of others doing the same. I´m kinda wondering why it didn´t work.....

But I guess in this case, the guys with the looper are on top ;)

when i switch from the v-twin to bypass, there is no loss in sounds, but vise versa, the sounds cuts out for a second... anyway... i can use the looper in a way so that i can turn multiple effects on, and then take the looper of bypass to activate em all at once, so i'll just make a looper... thanks guys!

Stick a 1 megaohm resistor between the ground and signal and your set.

I know the phenomenon, it´s "normal" for a V-twin. I´m just surprised the usual fix didn´t work is all ;)

Re: The Curse of the V-twin

are wee talking about older v twins or the newer style? both?

Hmm, good question. My 3 are all "old school" ones (first generation) without the gain pot ;)

Re: The Curse of the V-twin

as is mine so i wonder if the newer ones are different.

you have 3? my friend, may i ask why?
