The Doors L.A. Woman Les Paul w/Duncans coming soon

Re: The Doors L.A. Woman Les Paul w/Duncans coming soon

Trust me Formula 73, LOTS of players knew of and idolized Robby back in the day for his lyrical, tasteful and understated playing. He played rock using fingerstyle flamenco technique.

And...if you put a staple in it...well...then it wouldn't be a Robby Krieger Signature model, now would it?

Staples have never been a very popular pickup in the Les Paul. Over the years, I've seen them replaced countless times with P-90s, mini hums or PAFs...even Filtertrons. Personally, I like them...but I regard them as a "niche" pickup, not something a majority of players would use. If you really want a staple, order it from the Duncan Custom Shop and modify your guitar.

That's who we are and what we do...we mod our guitars...and that's what Krieger did, so many years ago.

Respectfully,

Bill

This will be sold to a limited number of discerning players indeed.

Not like they'll be lines of people around the building waiting to buy a Robby Krieger signature guitar. There are bigger selling points. I'd think there would be a significantly larger market for nice reasonably-priced '54 LP Customs (with staples) than this model; the idea being to sell guitars.

Limited editions run up costs, and signature instruments drive up the price. Rather than produce novelties for a handful of collectors, why not make guitars to sell in larger quantities? Put them in player's hands, not showcases.

Gibson already has epiphone to do that... they dont need to do it with their historic line also, its not like there is a shortage of affordable instruments at the moment.

'Affordable' as in under $3,000. Not much in the way of '54 LP Customs and '52 LP Goldtops.

They make a "56" gold top in the Epi line... which outside of the crap trapeze tail piece is pretty much the same as a 56. Nothing in the Epiphone line even approaches 3k not even at MSRP so i would call them pretty affordable.

I'd like to see some '52 Goldtops around, there's plenty of '56's and '57's. The tailpiece gives them a distinctive look, and gives some variety to all that gold paint. I saw that Gibson 'corrected' the tailpiece for a recent production '52.

Same goes for a '54 LP Custom. I'd think someone would make them.
