My hybrid jazz strat is reaching its final phases. Thanks in large part to the input from this forum, MetalManiac (u da man jerry! mini humbucker was clutch as well as selling you those strat pickups)
I just ordered a tortoise shell pickguard (minihb neck/HB bridge) to replace my current black pickguard (mini hb neck/strat/HB bridge).
Ordered RS guitarworks pots, 500k super pot to open up the sound of the neck mini humbucker even more (maybe throwing in a resistor to drop the effective rating down to the 400's depending on how bright it is and how nicely the tone control tapers it) and another 280k super pot for bridge volume.
So tortoise shell guard, 2 pickups, a 3 way switch instead of a 5 way (didnt get enough mileage and decided to clean up) and RS super pots all around, brighter neck, darker bridge (im thinking of using a resistor on the bridge volume pot to get the relative brightness equal to the neck pickup)
500k willl go for neck vol, 280k for bridge vol, master tone, 3 way..... with the bocote neck/ebony/stainless, solid jatoba block as a stationary trem block, also moving to Thomastik George Benson strings (manufactured differently from ddario chromes, equal tension across the board as opposed to having 30+ lbs at D and G strings and 22lbs at the high and low E, cloth wrapped wire ends, I played them on my buddy's 90's ES 135 and loved em)
Callaham saddles are also in the mail. This strat is going to be pretty much maxed out and finalized (finally!) for durability, playability, tone, and simplicity, just a pure jazz/funk/r&b workhorse that sounds like a hollowbody, so many people have been shocked at how close to a hollow it gets. Thumbs up to the input here!
