The Mag <?> Stag Mag

I have always wondered why Seymour changed the original MAG to the STAG MAG...

The change was from Flush Alnico 5 magnets to Staggered Alnico 2 magnets... the coils appear to be the same.

Any users here feel one design is better than the other?

I will soon try a Stag Mag in my neck pos... looking for reviews right now myself.

I never played a Mag also . . . but I love the Stag Mag - as a Tele neck pickup.

Re: The Mag <?> Stag Mag

Perhaps to warm it up, going from alnico 5 to alnico 2. The Stag Mag is still bright as a bridge pickup, so I assume that the Mag was a little brighter, and he decided to fine tune it.
Stag Mag's an awesome neck pickup if you don't mind the hot output.

I can totally see how a stag mag would be an ideal pickup for a tele neck, especially paired with a hotter bridge pup, like a QP or hot for tele bridge.

I've always had the impression that the stag mag was designed to be a best of both worlds kind of approach for strat users... a beefier bridge tones while still maintaining single coil nuances, while at the same time giving a true single coil sound in the bridge when split. Cool theory. I think DracoAran hit the nail right on the head.
