The Making of Petrucci's Rack

hey guys
we all know John Petrucci of Dream Theater. he's one of my favorite guitarists, and certainly at the top of his genre.
anyways, he is known to play absolutly MASSIVE racks, with mesa/boogies and lots of other good stuff.
in DT's latest album, Train of Thought, he started using Mesa Roadkings (he used to use souped up Mark II's). so now he needed a new rack for the DT tour :laugh2:

the guy who builds these monsters for him is Mark Snyder, with whom Petrucci has been working since the early days of DT. this guy knows his stuff.
so, i'll shut up now and let you watch :blackeye:

its best to watch these using streaming with windows media player, because they are about 10 minutes each.

enjoy!

Re: The Making of Petrucci's Rack

I can't see those for some reason... what are they supposed to be? Tours of Petrucci's racks?

Re: The Making of Petrucci's Rack

Wow, that was pretty cool. I imagine that if I had a rig like that, I would be doing solo gigs because with a rig that size, the rest of my band wouldn't fit on stage with me.

I enjoyed seeing it though. :)

Re: The Making of Petrucci's Rack

That was about as exciting as watching paint dry. Mark may know his stuff but he's not very dynamic in front of a camera, is he? For all the good info those movies offer, it could have easiy been edited down into a couple minutes of useful info.

As for the rack, geez. Talk about complicated.

That was very fun to watch. Thanks for that, I'm also a huge fan of Petrucci and it was cool seeing exactly how they wanted every bit of their tone to sound.

Re: The Making of Petrucci's Rack

the sound is nothing ground shattering.. i kind of expected more out of the huge thing.. maybe if he did a session with all the sounds with better quality..

dont mean to diss or put anyone down.. but i got this amp sound in my head that i cannot describe othervise than that it's godlike. the amp to be and end all... sadly, i've never heard anything that i'd say this is musical orgasm >.< :smack:

Rack setups are usually designed to reproduce the sounds you hear on an album, but no matter how well constructed they are, studio sound will almost always sound better.

It's just the nature of the beast.
