The Middle Position Of Jazz/JB Is The Best Humbucker Clean Tone I've Ever Heard

So this is probably common knowledge to most of you here....or maybe it's not. Since the middle position with humbuckers is usually, shall I say underutilized? And it's a Jazz/JB thread which many people are I guess blah over. But I still love this set in my SG and Jaguar.
I'm a guy who usually reaches for my Strats with Custom Shop Fat 50's/69 pickups. So being spoiled by those for clean tones is hard to compare to. But the Jazz/JB middle
position in particular has a nice sparkle. I almost like it better clean then just the Jazz alone somehow...?!!? Seriously.

And of course once I kick on some dirt the JB is heaven.

P.S. - I think the extra treble of the JB makes that middle position sparkle more too. More so than a sometimes muddy middle with typical pickups.

You probably like it better than the Jazz because it has some of that JB's magical high end...

Though, as a JB/Jazz user myself, I must say that that position is, to me, superfluous.

That's one of the reasons that IMHO the Jazz is a better beck pup to be paired with the JB than the 59 is.

I feel the same about a PG/CC

I feel like the middle position in general is really underrated by a lot of modern guitar players. Most players I see seem to either go for bright bridge or warm liquidy neck, and completely ignore all of the cool clucky/jangle/fuzzy tones of the middle position. Meanwhile, you look at most older guitar players, or at least ones who play in older styles, and they'll usually stay in middle position and ride the volume and tone controls to produce all sorts of beautiful tones. Heck, the Billy Gibbons signature Les Paul doesnt even have a pickup selector, its all just in how you control the volume pots...

My favourite rhythm tones recently has been the middle position of my WLH set, with the tone rolled off very slightly. Add a touch of compressor and reverb and you've got a really beautiful, jangly clean sound.

The Jazz/JB to date is still my favourite combo.

If you have the time and inclination, an even broader world of magical clean and dastardly dirty tones can be opened up with this combo by utilising some wiring trickery. They just lend themselves to custom wiring so well.

And I feel the same about Alt8 - Demon, lol. Well, Seymour Duncan produces great pickups otherwise we wouldn't be here.

I agree completely. And in a strat, they are magical... as well as my tele :)

Are you talking about the middle position plain parallel, or the pickups split (and then parallel)?

Alt8 + Full Shred here!! It sounds like heaven man! Althought I still think my Alt is dead. But, other thread, other story..

I love the JB JAZZ combined and split to the inner coils, even better, than using both combined in full humbucking mode. And if you are strat tele guy you are going to love this too.

Re: The Middle Position Of Jazz/JB Is The Best Humbucker Clean Tone I've Ever Heard

My Jaguar is wired for coil splitting the SG is wired normal.

For a short period I used that combo and I liked both the neck and middle position sounds for cleans.
