Well, i already think that one of the quackiest strat pickups are fender CS69 which i already have installed in some of my strats.

I'm planning to build one more strat :-) so i would like to hear some more pickup suggestions with a high quack factor......SSL1??? Fender CS54???????

Re: The most quack from a strat pickup :-)

I've been through quite a few singles lately.

57/62's - very neutral sounding.
CS 54's - simialr to the 57/62's but a bit more woody sounding.
GFS Texas Premiums - very good but quack isn't their specialty.

My first choice would be the CS 69's, but you have that covered.
The SSL-1's, to me, sound very, very similar to the 69's and they quack great as well. I'd try those first.

Re: The most quack from a strat pickup :-)

Any A5 vintage output pup will work.:) SSL-1, Surfer...Fender 57/62, Fat 50's, Fralins

I had Zhangligun wind me a lower output middle pup (5.9 K IIRC) and it quacks like daffy duck when mixed with the bridge.

Re: The most quack from a strat pickup :-)

The quakiest for me are the SA set with the SPC control turned up just a touch (like at 2-3 on the knob).

Re: The most quack from a strat pickup :-)

There isn't "a" Strat pu that would do it. It takes two. To my mind, the best #2 and #4 tone comes from an underwound middle.

Re: The most quack from a strat pickup :-)

I've used various pickups in the past and i don't remember the 57/62 being as quacky......same about the emg dg20 system.....The fender cs54 will be any better?

What about Fralin vintage hots?

In the same vein as an underwound mid pup, you can "tweak" your own set by lowering the mid pup height just a bit, and that can bring out some quack. I've done it with modest results, but most effectively in the 2nd pos. (bridge/mid).

As said before, a vintage alnico 5 mag is the classic ticket!

Lowering does help quite a bit. I like to combine the two, sub-6k + set well below neck and bridge level.

I like the 2 + 4 positions quite a bit on my strat, but I don't go for that cellophane type sound. Instead I use bridge/middle as sort of a "poor-man's woman tone" and the neck/middle as a mellower, almost jazz box sound. I tend to roll the middle pickup's tone knob down a bit in those combos. When I use the middle alone I put the tone knob back up for more of a jangly sound.

The Strat I have is a MIJ Fender from around '96/'97 and when I took the pickguard off once the pickups all had a "Fender Custom Shop" logo with a blue dot on the neck pickup and a red dot on the bridge pickup. I don't know which models they are, but there you have it.
