From the Framus/Warwick monthly newsletter:

"At the NAMM Show in 2012 bass icon Bootsy Collins received his one-of-a-kind 'Space Bass' made by the Warwick Custom Shop. This outstanding Custom Shop instrument, made of highest quality materials, with a spectacular coating and 165 LEDs is a truly one-of-a-kind masterpiece of the bass department here in Markneukirchen.

At the NAMM Show in 2014 we are proudly presenting the new RockBass Artist Line Bootsy Collins Space Bass. A really unique and affordable bass which is just as beautiful and excellent as its big brother from the Warwick Custom Shop.

It comes with a Mahogany body, a Maple neck and a Rosewood fingerboard. The RockBass Artist Line Bootsy Collins Space Bass comes equipped with active MEC TJ/J pickups and active MEC electronics.

We are honored that Mr. Bootsy Collins gives us so much friendship, trust and faith, that we are now able to present this new RockBass Bootsy Collins Space Bass. This new Artist Line model will be available starting from July 2014."

Re: the new Warwick Bootsy Collins sig Artist Line bass

I'm at the booth across the aisle from Warwick the entire show. I'll have to go over and check that out.

Re: the new Warwick Bootsy Collins sig Artist Line bass

Damn, I WANT !
You and me both, bro! I'll have to get a better rig to play it through, though.
Bootsy brought the thunder with stadium-level gear even in the 70's.
Tri-amping, more than 2k watts in the subs, double stacks on both sides of the stage, the whole 9.

Re: the new Warwick Bootsy Collins sig Artist Line bass

I'd like to hear the active Double J pickup. I have the passive version and do not care very much for it.

Re: the new Warwick Bootsy Collins sig Artist Line bass

I want this so bad. Very few good looking purple basses, but I love this one.

Re: the new Warwick Bootsy Collins sig Artist Line bass

I must be getting old. That bass is an OSHA violation. A Jazz bass or Thunderbird is infinitely more appealing to me.

Re: the new Warwick Bootsy Collins sig Artist Line bass

I couldn't own something that was so clearly someone else's ax.

Always thought it was kind of silly to want to own a guitar that looked like Eddie's Frankencaster too.

Just put a Lew waterslide decal over Bootsy, and it'll be the Lew Collins signature bass! LOL

Re: the new Warwick Bootsy Collins sig Artist Line bass

Most artist sig axes are a few circuit mods, or some subtle woodwork over the conventional forms.
Bootsy played a Jazz early on, but he wanted something that fit his persona when he boarded the Mothership with George Clinton.
This is the most over-the-top instrument I've seen since the "wangcaster". (decorum prevents me from posting a pic... google it)

Re: the new Warwick Bootsy Collins sig Artist Line bass

LMAO. But I gotta admit it would look great in my shop window.

Re: the new Warwick Bootsy Collins sig Artist Line bass

his actual own Space Basses are indeed full of electronics. i've always wondered what all of that was. i can hear a Mu-tron on some of the Rubber Band stuff and fuzz of some sort, but there's a lot more going on with those Space Basses than Mu-tron and fuzz for sure.

Re: the new Warwick Bootsy Collins sig Artist Line bass

same here. i usually try to go as far in the opposite direction as i can.

i would like to have a real Bootsy Specs Space Bass for my collection...if i had a collection....but for gigging ? nah.

LOL!!!

Looks uncomfy to play with the points. The star shape is alil over the top for me, but I really like the colors and visual

Re: the new Warwick Bootsy Collins sig Artist Line bass

I need to install a 135s set on a Warwick with two-piece bridge that only takes a tapered B string (130+). I know that from my past experience. Does anyone except Warwick sell sets with a tapered B string?

Re: the new Warwick Bootsy Collins sig Artist Line bass

Jack, you have many options instead of looking for a tapered B string.

1. Grab a pair of pliers and squeeze the string right by the ball end. It'll make it small enough to fit snugly in the bridge; I've done it this way since the mid 90s.
2. Carefully file the opening of the B string slot to widen it, letting it accept regular .130+ gauge strings. Many players I know have done this.
3. Warwick will sell you a bridge that has a wider B string slot.
