Or this can be the "i prefer dimarzio's over duncan pups " if you wish? :laugh2:
I want to ask what is it about one or the other that makes you prefer them?

Here it is plain and simple... I dont like SD's BECAUSE they say Seymour Duncan on them! I try pups out and listen really well to the sonic and tonic properties for which I seek! Guesss what? They ALWAYS happen to have SD on the label...

What can I say? SD ROCKS!!!

Enjoy! SHut up and obey your ears!

seymour duncans are, as a whole, geared towards vintage sounds. more use is made of alnico II (which i love).. SD seems more proud of its heritage of reinforcing the traditional tones..

also, SD is a lot more open with it's business, this forum being a big part of that- people being allowed to recommend other brands etc. the business ethics dosen't really influence my decisions as much as tone does, but the whole double cream thing speaks volumes IMO..

i used to be into EMGs in a big way.. i've gradually moved to SDs for guitar, EMGs for bass.

Generally speaking, I do prefer SD pickups. But there are other good ones out there.

As much as some may not like it, I must say that I like the s/c pups in my Nitefly...and they are Dimarzio Designed. They sound better than any stock Strat pickups I have heard (then again, that's not saying much). Crystal clear, vintage strat sound.

I like the ESP pickups that came stock in my bass. Full, lots of bottom, but lots of definition. Great pups.

My dad has a Strat equipped with Van Zandt pups. Those things are AMAZING!

As aleclee reminds us every time he posts: "There is no "best" when it comes to something as subjective as tone."

However, I am looking forward to trying out (and probably buying) my Bro-in-law's Parker Fly Deluxe with his SD custom shop pups. He got an extra set of the Di. Des. pups and had MJ convert them into a Custom Custom and Alnico 2 Pro set. (review to follow in a couple of weeks).

I feel the same way. I like vintage tones and even Duncan's hotter pickups, like the Custom or Custom Custom or JB, still manage to retain the alot of the vintage vibe. I guess I just like the way Seymour voices his pickups better than the way most other pickup manufacturers voice thiers. Also, I think Duncans give alot of tone for the money. I've compared them to many boutique pickups costing alot more and the '59, Custom Custom, SSL-1 and others sound as good to me or better than some boutique pickups costing much more.

So to sum it up as to why I use mostly Duncan pickups: great people...great tone...great price.
