I figured I'd take a little break from my "retirement" from the forum... to brag about my new LP! Well... technically I guess it's only a P. I picked up an old Gibson The Paul II at Guitar Center the other day... Selling my old amp and a bass to "finance" it.
Damn good guitar! I went in to buy a PRS SE II soapbar actually... I was finally turned away from it by a less than resonant body, slightly cheap feel, and noisy pickups. I'll probably own a P90 guitar at some point in my life, but not an SE soapbar, (though an old singlecut might entice me... I've still got my eyes on a gibson melody maker)
So I see this black les paul sitting there... and fell in love
It's got the perfect neck, not too big not too small, (not V shaped at all) and bends beautifully (the main problem I had with my Schecter). It's like a Les Paul but with a thinner ( SG width body, no binding, dot inlays, and no maple top, it is a carved top though. It really sounds more like an SG than a typical Paul.
Decided I needed to give myself a present for managing to remove my academic hold and studying so much lately
I don't half mind the 498T and 490 R pickups... the low end could be a little less mushy on the bridge, and the rhythm could sound fuller... Duncan's might solve that in time
but for now I'm happy.
It looks nice... all black, black pickguard, black pickups and rings... As I always say, black don't crack baby! I'm probably getting it set up in a few days to get rid of a bit of buzz on the 5th and 7th fret on the low e string. Otherwise I'm in love. That and my Vox, I've finally got the tone I'm looking for (the Schecter is staying though... it does a great strat
)
anyone else got opinions on these things Pics coming soon! hopefully
