The Paul!!!

I figured I'd take a little break from my "retirement" from the forum... to brag about my new LP! Well... technically I guess it's only a P. I picked up an old Gibson The Paul II at Guitar Center the other day... Selling my old amp and a bass to "finance" it.

Damn good guitar! I went in to buy a PRS SE II soapbar actually... I was finally turned away from it by a less than resonant body, slightly cheap feel, and noisy pickups. I'll probably own a P90 guitar at some point in my life, but not an SE soapbar, (though an old singlecut might entice me... I've still got my eyes on a gibson melody maker)

So I see this black les paul sitting there... and fell in love:D It's got the perfect neck, not too big not too small, (not V shaped at all) and bends beautifully (the main problem I had with my Schecter). It's like a Les Paul but with a thinner ( SG width body, no binding, dot inlays, and no maple top, it is a carved top though. It really sounds more like an SG than a typical Paul.

Decided I needed to give myself a present for managing to remove my academic hold and studying so much lately:D

I don't half mind the 498T and 490 R pickups... the low end could be a little less mushy on the bridge, and the rhythm could sound fuller... Duncan's might solve that in time:) but for now I'm happy.

It looks nice... all black, black pickguard, black pickups and rings... As I always say, black don't crack baby! I'm probably getting it set up in a few days to get rid of a bit of buzz on the 5th and 7th fret on the low e string. Otherwise I'm in love. That and my Vox, I've finally got the tone I'm looking for (the Schecter is staying though... it does a great strat:D)

anyone else got opinions on these things Pics coming soon! hopefully

Re: The Paul!!!

Sounds like a cool guitar - I look forward to the pics! :)

Do you know when it was made? If you don't, there's dating information on the Gibson web site, or you can e-mail them with a description and the serial number.

Living with it stock for a while before you think about modding anything is a good idea. If it's rare you'll preserve the value by keeping it original too.

Good score! :approve:

Re: The Paul!!!

Cool score!

But is this really gonna help your grades??

But still...Pics please!!! :burnout:

Re: The Paul!!!

as for the year, I looked up the SN and it's a 97... no clue if it's rare or not, but I don't care it plays great.

As for my grades... well, I figured I owed myself a reward after seeing my grades on my last few midterms, I've got one more in two days that I'm about to start studying hardcore for, as soon as I get all the practice material printed off of the course website, at which point I'm gonna have to disappear for a while. F*ck physics...

The bad thing (ok, one of the bad things :smack: ) about my situation is I now barely have any time to play the thing :smack: I can wait til spring break though.

Got to take care of business some more... outta here!!! :burnout:

Re: The Paul!!!

hooray for SG bodied Les Pauls! It may not be the SG shape but it's SG thickness right? Regular LP's are so different...
