The Reverb Thread

Re: The Reverb Thread

I prefer a dry tone. Basically I like reverb when other people are playing, annoys the crap out of me when I use it. Takes too much away from the natural tone.

I use effects...including reverb for "color" not as a constant part of my tone. I do have a pring reverb model set to almost nothing on my current POD patches...only cos of the room my amp is in.

When I do uses reverb I prefer a good spring reverb set very, very low, and I love those old Fender tube reverb units. I hate digital anything...reverb..delay...modulation..whatever (which sounds funny since I use a POD XTL..but all the models I use for reverb/delay/modulation are analog/tube/tape models)

Re: The Reverb Thread

IMO a Marshall with reverb (in a live setting) just doesn't sound like a Marshall.

Re: The Reverb Thread

90% - a touch of spring (amp) reverb
10% - Dry
10% - Slapback

I always go by keep it simple stupid.

Re: The Reverb Thread

In Fender amps and when it comes to reverb Fender pretty much wrote the book. The Reverb adds more gain to the output signal. If you compare the tonal quality of a Fender Deluxe and a Deluxe Reverb there is a huge difference in the performance of these 2 amps.

I like to use Reverb in my SFSR and my SFDR in a subtle amount no more than 3. This just adds enough flavor to the tone and allows chords to shimmer very nicely. In amps that have a lot of gain such as a Marshall I find that when you turn the reverb off it increases the gain. So to a degree it does somewhat depend on the amp being used. My Bogner Shiva has reverb in both channels...... so far I am setting the clean channel similar to the way I would set up my Fender. The Drive channel I prefer to have just a hint of reverb.

Re: The Reverb Thread

I go back and forth depending on what I'm playing. In a solo guitar context I like a bit of verb. In a rock band I'd probably use less, particularly on a crunchy guitar. I might use some delay during a solo. I do enjoy the sound of a dry guitar, but if I've been listening to a lot of Rosenwinkel I find myself cranking the reverb (and singing along!). :D
