The right gear for the right sound - opinions

Here are my main guitars:

  • Fender double-fat strat with CC in bridge and PGn in neck
  • Gibson Les Paul Standard with Filtertron-type pickups
  • Strat knock-off with 3 Hot Gold Lace Sensors
  • Esquire with Hot Rails for Tele

I like to play gritty clean blues (think cleaner SRV) and dirty blues (think Buddy Guy). Occasionally, I also like to play hard rock (think early EVH).

I'm considering getting a Fender Pro Junior (due to its light weight and low wattage), which I could crank since I have an attenuator. I'm also considering a Fulltone OCD pedal to (hopefully) kick it into hard rock territory.

What do you guys think? Will the Pro Junior and OCB work with some (or all) of my guitars in a way to get the sounds I'm looking for?

You should definately be able to get some usable tones from that setup, but you'll want a louder amp for any kind of gigging/loud jamming. EL-84s are great for overdriven blues and rock . . .

I have a lot of gear. I won't bore you with all the details. I use what is necessary for the music. When I play smaller GIGsand blues or classic rock is the flavor, I use a '67 Deluxe Reverb. If the room is bigger I use a 68 Super reverb, and I occasionally A/B this with a Marshall 50W combo. I recently bought a Bogner Shiva hoping to eliminate carrying 2 amps and a lot of other stuff. The Shiva has been a great addition to my amp arsenal. It has the cleans of my Fenders and crushes my Marshalls OD. Best amp I have played thru.

When I go to rehearsals I usually bring 2 guitars, one with single coils (either a Strat or a Tele) and a HB equipped guitar. I switch to the guitar that works the best for the piece I will be playing. One guitar and One amp doesn't work for me!
