The Rule or Magic of 6

Somebody out the must have heard this besides me. There is some formula out there to get that sparkly old Fender amp sound from any amp. It had some formula with the Tone, Volume and Reverb controls. I can only remember that the Treble was set to 6 and the Bass and Mid had some relationship to 6. Somebody please help me. Thanks!

I've never heard of this, but it is interesting.

I wonder if this is something like the lost chord....

It's kinda the sweet spot on Fender amps in general. You could put all the knobs at 6 and the amp would sound great. I'd still put the reverb a lot lower though.

Re: The Rule or Magic of 6

I went on the Fender Forum and got some hits, but not the whole picture. Here's what I remember....
Volume=6, Treble=6 , Mid=3 +Bass=3 (3+3=6)
Rev to taste
The idea is to put the Tubes in a happy place, crank up the high end and get that sparkly Fender amp sound. If you want a little more Mids, drop the Bass to 2 (3X2=6) Same for more Bass. I have a Fender Blues Jr and it sounds great set like this, but it has a master volume control - because the volume at 6 can be really loud, but you can always use your Guitars volume control. Try it and Take Care!

I leave bass/mid/treble on my Marshall all at 6. Gain on the clean is at 6, and it starts to sound good with the Master Volume at around 6 too. hmm...

That's an interesting formula, and I'm sure it's been well experimented with, just to get the optimum Q point out of a Fender amp. However, I don't think I'd want the bass control on 2 or 3. I like to have it nice and rich with bass.
