well i went out to buy a new strap yesterday & it dawned on me that i need a wah, i've wanted one for years

unfortunately the only one they had was a cry baby, and i hated it, the range was either too short or too long for the sounds i wanted out of it


basically i want a do-all wah, something that can go from barely even noticeable to way too much wah for any purpose ever.

so this brought me to consider either the ibanez one, or the dunlop one with the "Q" knob

can anyone explain the difference between the 2?

also, does anyone know what wah John Frusciante uses?

try the morley's, more reliable, easier battery access, and dont need to be stomped on to activate. They use sensors in place of a potentiometer and have an led to show on/off status

I've got the Dunlop 535Q . . . basically it's got three knobs on it. The big knob switches between a bunch of different wah sounds (from very noticeable to less overpowering). One of the little knobs on the side allows you to make adjustments to the frequency that the wah is sweeping, and the other little one lets you adjust the amount of clean boost that you get when you turn on the wah. There's also a little red switch on the side of the wah that lets you turn on or off the boost feature. I really don't think that there's a wah sound that you can't make with the 535Q. You can get good approximations of Hendrix's wah, Jimmy Page's, Slash's wah, U2's wah, Satriani's wah . . . I've never tried the Ibanez wah (I assume you're talking about the weeping demon?) so I'll have to let someone else tell you about that one . . .

the dunlop 535Q sounds interesting, but i'd rather have a pot that controls the range & presence rather than a switch

...anyway, what's an example of frusciante wah use? he isn't known for that exactly (well not by me)

You have 2 options:

Option one: Buy the Fullertone Clyde Deluxe and be done with it. Its the most vocal Wah on the Market. It nails Hendrix right out of the box.

Option 2: Buy a Vox 847 and send it to StratDeluxer97. He will make it sound like the Clyde Deluxe.

I have 3 Wahs. A Vintage Crybaby from the 60's that was reworked by StratDeluxer and it is my main Wah.

On my second board I have a Vox Clyde McCoy Wah. A very good Wah also. It has a power supply and is true bypass. Very vocal sounding.

I have a Vax 847 that I am planning on sending to StratDeluxer, but have not taken the time to ship it yet. Lew had nothing but great things to say about his and thats good enough for me!

The Weeping Demon owns all others.

EVERYTHING is configurable on it from the frequency, the range, whether it goes on with a switch or just by moving it, the amount of pressure on the pedal, the span of time it kicks off when at rest, a boost option....

It does everything...

The Fulltone Clyde Deluxe is a great wah and doesn't require any mods! Also check out the highly tweaky Teese RMC2 and RMC3 wahs...My wah mods get pricey for the average players on the forum..I still do the wah mods if guys want to shell out for it though!

John Frusciante uses a Ibanez WH-10 wah pedal. Great wah just hard to find and if you find one you'll pay for it.

As far as wahs go Teese wahs are the cream of the crop IMO

I'm a huge peppers fan. But could only listen to that album all the way through once :D I can't really think of any non SA wah frusciante work...

The Demon is Weeping because it does not have the tone of my original Thomas Organ Co. Stereo fuzz/wah/volume !!!!!!

How about the digitech - multiple wah's and distortion!

You can set the WD to either turn on via the switch on the right, or to turn on when you move the pedal.

I was leaning towards buying one and asked for reviews. Skarey's comments about "infinite tweakability" sold me, and he is absolutely CORRECT.

For the price, you cannot beat the Weeping Demon. Besides, we need for more demons to weep.;)

I have the dunlop crybaby 353, and it covers a nice range. It even has 2 voices for your bass playing (if you really must) But admittedly, i don't use wah a heck of alot. If its distortion added, then i think of kirk hammet and his awful wah soloing. But used tastefully (like anything) it's very nice. Funk stuff its yum.

I like the Vox... it's way better for rhythm then a Cry Baby but it gives you different tone for solos - here I can't decide on which one is better but the Vox have an advantage that it is a little more transperent so it will always be more tastefull.

well the 2 reviews on the ibanez pretty much sold me on it

dangly i believe john uses a TINY bit of wah on the funky part of my lovely man on bssm, also on the solo

it's weird but that tiny barely noticeable range is very important to me in this buying descision

plus the fact that it's made by ibanez makes me think it's gonna get closer to the wh-10 than any other pedal. I mean, if you want ts-9 sounds but can't afford one, and you have a choice between a ts-7 and a boss sd-1, you go with the ts-7, right?
