The sound of a Jazz in a single coil?

Hey guys.

I fitted a JB in the bridge of my friends Dean HSS Superstrat about 9 months ago, and he now wants to change the stock single coils for something better.

He really likes the sound of a Jazz, but obviously they're humbuckers and not single coils.

What would be the closest single coil pickup for the neck and middle positions of his guitar?

I'm not sure what wood the body of his guitar is made of, but it has a Floyd Rose bridge and he uses 9 gauge strings.

He generally plays Metal, Jazz and old style Punk music.

Thanx for any opinions.

59 and Jazz are said to be very similar. The only difference it's that jazz has a little less bass. So I guess lil59 could be a good option...

Merely speculation on my part, but bear with me: If the Jazz is the original neck companion for the JB in the bridge, the JB Jr neck model should balance nicely with a ful sized JB model.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have a Lil 59 in the neck of a Strat myself, so there's always the option of him trying that to see if he likes it :)

A JB Jr in the neck is an interesting idea, not a pickup I'd thought of trying myself.

He wants a clear, articulated tone where you can hear every note that's played (the reasons he likes the Jazz pup). Keep the opinions coming please guys :)

Perhaps some Cool Rails?

Thanks for the suggestion :)

I've never tried them myself, so could someone describe the tone of these pups for me please?

Thanx for your post.
