Re: The Squier '51 Returns
Solid wood this time, NOT ply!
As far as I know the original was as solid as you can get. At least my 2006 one is.
That looks awesome. Anybody have any long-term experience with these? Other than the solid body, are they different from the earlier versions?
Do you mean long term experience with the initial run? It was the best $100 I've ever burned on guitars I can say
Umm, they've been available for the past 2 years already as part of the Fender Pawn Shop series. Looks like they've been demoted back to the Squier brand.
They had very low price back in time. Now it's a little higher, around $250-300. The Fender costed 700 or something like that. I have not played the new one but played the Fender Pawn Shop after years of abusing my 2006 '51. The Fender was great but my one was just as great.
I never "got" what the big deal is/was about these.
It is just like a woman who is beautiful in an odd way, not for everyone's taste for sure. The "deal" was its joke price for the most, it was around $100. It drastically outvalued anything in its time. Neck-deep in the beater league, it became a playground for so many modders who created amazing axes on the '51 base.
For some reason it is my only geetar that remained stock

I don't know, it was fun the way it was.
This track was based on its cleans. Quite nice for a $100 axe I think. Even for a $300, the present price. I'm really thinking about getting a sunburst one some day.
