THE TRIAL OF HARI SELDON
(c) 2016, Intelligent Egg Productions.

THE PROSECUTION:
Commission for Public Safety
Aristocratic, Divine
This trial is now in session
The future's ours do decide

So, sit tight -- don't lie
We've been waiting, watching your every move

H. SELDON:
Commissioner Chen, and my lords
I do not wish to offend
Three centuries is all that's left you
Before the Empire's end

Your jugular, exposed
Greatest weakness carves you out from within

THE SCIENTISTS:
Flee Trantor today
We run away, one more day
To survive, keep alive

H. SELDON:
Foundation's plan has begun
I will not live to see
Galaxy's history be undone

This is great...I think I enjoyed this the most out of your tunes! Extremely clear and balanced production as well.

At first I was like 'really, letting buzz come through on one of the first notes?' Then I realized it was actually part of the riff haha

Very cool! Love the eastern feel at the beginning. It kind of sounds like black sabbath meets rainbow as it progresses -- very compelling melodies and changes. The singing is also fantastic -- is that you singing?

Thanks so much for the feedback!

I have to say that the emotional tone of the entire album is going to be quite dark, which will appeal to some people. I guess it is swinging in the opposite direction from AGP* and MCP**, which were both lighter in terms of tonality. The very next full-length release is the one that will probably be a love-it-or-hate-it type of thing: 60-plus minute long instrumental/soundscape experiment! :) The album this song is appearing on, Foundation, will be released just after that one.

Production-wise, I used a different set of refs for this song which really helped me dial in the style of the sound I wanted to get across, especially when it came to placing the vocals, of which there are a butt-ton on this song.

Doh! lol

Yeah, when you tune down an oud, that is the sound you get. :)

Thanks, that is my remedial oud playing lol.

Thanks ... I can definitely see where you are getting that from!

Man, I wish that was me! I hire studio musicians for the stuff I cannot do: namely, drums and singing. The lyrics/vocal lines are written by me, though, and I create the vocal guide by playing a guitar to the vocal melody. Has worked well thus far.

Oh, there was something I wanted to add about this, but plumb forgot! :)

I sat in on a killer mix tutorial at AES NYC last October with Michael Brauer and Fab Dupont. One of the things that Brauer does, which struck me as being super cool and important, is he limits the focus on any part of a song to just THREE elements: and 'drums' does not count! (That would be 8 elements) So, during a verse he may make the vocal, bass guitar, and kick drum be the feature; for the first chorus it may be two rhythm guitars and the snare, etc. Everything else takes a back seat to the feature elements. This really helped me when it comes to mixing hierarchy in my own stuff, which usually has many many elements and melodies in play simultaneously.

Thought I would share that nugget of wisdom. :)
