The Trooper solo

First stab at Trooper Solo. I used this new Jackson sl2h with stock 59 and JB and Mesa Boogie Mark V channel 2 on Mark I.

Funny story. I started recording with my Carvin CS4 and had played it perfectly until 3/4 through it when my high e snapped. Damn I could not pull it together after that so I recorded again with this brand new Jackson. My 2nd time playing it since I got it. The 59 cuts through nicely. Good stock pickups.

Re: The Trooper solo

Nicely done man!! :friday:

I'm not really into Iron Maiden so I can't comment on how close it is to the original but I will say that it was very nice playing. You did a really good job of keeping it clean, there was hardly any unwanted string noise or anything like that and your tone was pretty damn nice.

On the constructive criticism side; I think it could be a little bit smoother, there were a couple of times where it felt a little rushed, which is a weird thing to say about a shred solo, I know, but it's the only way I can think of to say it. The harmonising at the end was pretty tight too but I think you could probably tighten it up a little bit more. Run through it a couple more times and you should have it bang on perfect.

Still a really good job. Kudos.:headbang:

Re: The Trooper solo

Thank you for your comments. Your suggestions were informative and helpful. The trouble I am having is I dont know what version of the song the backing track is. The timing is different than the tab I was looking at. I need to step through the backing track a couple of times and work on the timing.

Please check back again soon when I update the track. Thanks for listening.

Re: The Trooper solo

sounds pretty much like the real deal! nice transition from first half to second half, which otherwise is 2 guitarists trading off of course.

I need this tab! (hint hint PM me if you can).

maybe I should just get a maiden greatest hits tab book. that'd make for a fun summer project, learning a bunch of maiden solos. I bet it'd also help with theory to, to see what scales they use over what chords and such. I can't figure out by ear.

Half the fun would be switching from the bridge to neck pickups, to sound like you're going from Smith to Murray!

Re: The Trooper solo

Sounded okay. Personally I would have did the first solo on the bridge pickup, then switched to the neck for the second half. The whole thing sounds like you were doing Dave's part due to the tone.

Well I was just learning the solo but I will practice that and switch pickups next time I record the track. That sounds like a good idea.
