The Ukulele bug

Re: The Ukulele bug

I love ukulele. I have two of them, a Mele, that I picked up on my first visit to Hawaii, and a Rick Turner Compass Rose, made in California. Both are tenors.

Like guitars, you get what you pay for. And you can get ukuleles really, really cheap. For less than €200 euros, you'll probably get one made in the Far East, which should be fine. You'll have fun playing it. It's physically impossible to play a ukulele without having a blast.

Re: The Ukulele bug

There are a lot of good, inexpensive ukes to choose from these days (at least in the U.S.). I've got a Lanakai tenor that I bought for $170 USD on Maui about 8 years ago. It's been a very good uke. Cordoba makes some great ones too. I've been looking at those lately. Having owned 4 Cordoba flamencos ranging from a $600 GK Studio made in China, to a $2K FCWE Reissue made in Spain... I'd have NO problem picking-up a Cordoba uke sight-unseen.

At any rate... I would recommend a tenor uke for guitar players who are interested in ukes. The scale won't feel so restricted. I string mine with the wound low G because I prefer that sound to a high G there.

My daughter has become quite the little uke player over the past year since I bought her a concert model. I'm taking her to see Jake Shimabukuru here next month. Got 4th row seats for that show. If you haven't seen Jake, check him out on YouTube. He's the guy who inspired me to pick one up in the first place.

Thanks y'all :) I ended up ordering an all-solid Mahogany Kala. Should be here Friday, we'll see!
