The Ultimate Bridge Humbucker for Strat.

I've been thinking about the most versatile, medium/vintage output strat humbucker that can be fairly used for any genre....!!

My thoughts are basically focused on:

1- PG/PG+ with UOA5

2- SD with UOA5

3- PA-TB3

4- 59 with A4/UOA5

5- A2P with UOA5

6- WLH

.....Currently enjoying an old SD Allan Holdsworth model HB....
You and me both sir!
Im in the process of wiring up my other Strat with a Warmoth H/S parchment guard, Bill/Becky shielded L500XL bridge/DiMarzio DP-184 Chopper neck, with a 3-way Tele switch, Series/Split/Parallel mini toggle and a single 500K volume pot..

The PATB-3 sounds like it would be an awesome pup to try out. Or the 59/Custom as mentioned above....

Now that we're talking about custom shop models, it's +1 for Brobucker and 78' model!

I'm a big fan of the stock pg in the bridge of a hss strat. Good power without totally overwhelming the singles and a bright/fat tone that works really well for me

I've enjoyed the PG, '78, and the '57 classic

I agree with the PG....though I prefer it with the PGn instead of the PGb. The PGb can be a bit too thick to blend well IMO, and it also takes a lot away from the Strat bridge position if you have a pickup there that is too fat. PGn in the bridge position gives a bright PAF tone that is a little closer to the classic bright, stinging Strat bridge sound.

IMO, in an HSS guitar, the DiMarzio Red Velvets are the perfect single coil companion to a PG. They sound like what you'd imagine a PG sounding like, if it was a Strat pickup instead of a humbucker.

Me personally, I feel like my Dimebucker is super versatile. I know its not a medium/vintage output pickup; however, it is super articulate whether with pristine cleans or extreme gain...so I would say it is. In my Walnut build it is not harsh/brittle–gets some great blues to country and rock to metal...being so articulate is why I would put it down as the "ultimate bridge pickup" for any genre...I think some people are turned off by the high gain but IMO its a super versatile pickup.

I still think that the ultimate strat humbucker should have a vintage output, where you can paint it with any color you like.

Still a good point of view, though...

I like the screamin demon. Solid humbucker that splits extremely well for infinite versatility. Right in the pocket of dcr with about 10.5k. Good eq balance of clarity and mids and no matter how u paint it, it always sounds clear and good.

Re: The Ultimate Bridge Humbucker for Strat.

the uoa5 is a great magnet and suits the 59 really well. 59's stock are 2 cond and i prefer 4 cond for hss strats

Re: The Ultimate Bridge Humbucker for Strat.

I'm probably in a minority here, but I actually like hotter humbuckers in HSS strats. I like it so that when it is split and paired with the middle position, it keeps that traditional "Sultans of Swing, Lay down Sally, Free Ride" tone that you get when the coils are close enough in output.

If the pickup isn't hot enough, it compromises that quack/chime, plus I like to have the ability to have a single coil bridge pickup on it's own when I want to split it. Then you could dial in a nice rhythm tone with it split, but switch to full bucker for a nice fat boost when you want.

So my favorites would be the JB, the Full Shred, Custom Custom, and the 59/custom hybrid. The hybrid is cool because it splits like a pickup in the Custom family, but isn't as hot when used in full, so it isn't such a huge jump from your typical single coil neck pickup if you don't want it to be especially when you fiddle with the pickup heights a bit.

Still some good choices, I just may replace JB in your list with Perpetual Burn.

Haven't tried the PB yet, but it seems like it would fit right in! JB works pretty well with 250ks, so I I can keep the strat straight on that too, which is another reason why I like it.

Tried a 250K with my PB yesterday, works better than JB IMO.
