Re: The Well LIX: Well_Half_Empty

well we have bars of course, a lot of them have local musicians on fridays & saturdays; one of the more indie ones called The Anchor has a trivia night that's pretty fun.

Last Friday of every month we have Final Friday, where all the art galleries down town are open up for free & there's once again liquor everywhere, at some of the galleries there's music too; usually blues or jazz or something. It's pretty fun, everyone that goes seems to have a great time

For a few weeks out of the year we have River Fest, which I liked when I was little cause they have parades & boat races & food & all the usual stuff. Kind of gown out of it by now but meh, it's there

WSU has from what I understand a decent basketball team but i've never seen them

The local DIY scene for all ages shows is pretty cool, too. There's not enough of any one subculture to really have genre-specific shows (except maybe metal) so most of the shows I go to are kind of a patchwork of different things going on within the groups and how they kind of evolve and influence each other. Real estate is also cheap as hell here so every time a venue gets shut down there's 2 more people gettin things rolling on 2 new venues

The local record shop is actually pretty cool, too. I can usually walk in with $20 and walk out with 4+ records, which beats $17 for a CD any day of the week

The population here is surprisingly diverse so we have lots of good restaurants; more mexican and asian ones than I could even think to count.

aaand that's about all that comes to mind, i'm sure i'm forgetting some stuff but meh

Any relation to Dr. Drew?

Re: The Well LIX: Well_Half_Empty

do you prefer T or A?

Re: The Well LIX: Well_Half_Empty

A; I've only been with a few girls who had great T, but they aaaalllll had good A.

and the name came from this punk band I was in when I was 16 called Glass Half Empty, just happens to be when I joined the forum.

Re: The Well LIX: Well_Half_Empty

what does ICT stand for, and what is the most awkward moment you ever had while gigging / at a bar / jamming / with a girl?

Also, what's the best sushi in the area?

ICT is the airline code for Wichita, the indie scene adopted it way back in the day & it's just kind of stuck since - a lot of the younger crowd here uses it now

most awkward:

gigging - broke a string 2 measures into the first song in the set once

at a bar - various drunks and crack heads starting weird conversations with me & getting unnecessarily handsy. Lately a lot of ugly girls have made an evening out of sending me every signal they know how to & never getting the picture that all I really want is for them to go away. I've probably had to reach down 3 fat girls' shirts in the past month to get my cigarettes back. Not bragging, this is nothing to brag about.

jamming - last bass player we had had been in tons of bands and was kind of building a reputation as one of the better younger bassists in town, or at least in the younger crowd. First jam with him we realized he didn't know how to stay in key, or even tell what key he was in.

with a girl - I got stalked by an ex for awhile. I've always loved cream soda and one time she put a 2 liter of it on my car, called me and told me about it, and watched me walk out and get it from her car which was parked less than a block down. That was creepy as hell. She lives in Washington now, thank god

Best sushi is probably Hanna Cafe

Re: The Well LIX: Well_Half_Empty

Do you want a career in music, or is it for love?

Did any major musicians/performers ever come out of Wichita?

Have you ever played the song "Wichita Lineman"? Were you able to hold your meal afterward? :earl:

How's life treating you -- college, GF, money? Is the economy biting your butt?

Re: The Well LIX: Well_Half_Empty

does that stack sound fendery or marshally?

Also, when you're not drinking / gigging / jamming / trying to have "laterally enhanced" females get the heck away from ya, what is your favorite thing to do? (Classes don't count ;-))

It's for love, but i mean money's cool. I'm in school for education, though; I'll be a college English teacher when I'm done, but I have about 4 years worth of teaching high school on the way. That being said if my band wanted to tour I wouldn't think twice about doing it.

Uhh well I dunno if or how many came out of wichita, but i know joe walsh, Kansas (obviously), the esoteric and the get up kids all came from here. Split Lip Rayfield is all from here, if you're into bluegrass at all. Also i guess the host from Survivor is from here.

I've never heard that song before and don't really want to. I hate football, and every song i've heard about football has made me wanna shoot myself in the head. Those 2 things shouldn't mix

I'm in my 2nd year of college right now, next year I'm moving up to Baldwin City (Topeka/KC/Lawrence area) to go to school at Baker, which is thus far giving me around 8 g's in scholarships. I still have a couple in the works with that as well so we'll see. So yeah, things are goin pretty well there.

No girlfriend right now, but i've been talking to one and she made me a ****load of cookies the other day and has been calling me every day lately so it's looking favorable. She's pretty awesome, first tat-less one i've had in awhile.

Economy really didn't hit here like I've heard it did elsewhere, i mean it's a little worse but not really from what I can tell

I can make it sound like either; that was the point. Cleans are distinctly Fender though... which was also the point. I dunno brit voiced speakers work awesome with American amps, I don't know why more people don't mix & match.

After all that stuff my next favorite thing to do is read, I suppose.

Re: The Well LIX: Well_Half_Empty

What are your biggest influences, musical or otherwise, and what convinced you to get the guitars that you have?

Re: The Well LIX: Well_Half_Empty

wichita lineman is a really beautiful song ... not about football at all ... the chords and melody of that song are just perfect ... very chill tune ... i have heard a pretty happenin instrumental version by jonny A ... REM did one too ... and i think that the daleo brothers worked up a cover of it taht was pretty sensational ... really, go listen to a few versions of it and come back to give us your impressions of it
