Just installed a Wilkinson VS100N tremolo on my Charvel Journeyman. Talk about a killer trem. Stays in tune as well as any Floyd I've used and is half the hassle. Turned a great guitar into a total rock machine. I love this thing. Off to play!
Nice! I have that same trem (in black too) on a guitar and it really is just the best non-locking trem I've tried. I have a bladerunner that I think could give the Wilkinson a run for its money if it got a better nut, but the Wilkinson really just is that good either way.
I've done it both ways. On the Lonestar I replaced the studs, on my 50's Classic Player, I just dropped the VS50 onto the existing studs and pillars. FWIW, the Wilkinson pillars do not fit on the Fender studs.
I installed a set of Gotoh mini locking tuners. The VS100 was a straight drop in. I replaced the stock pillars with the Gotoh ones. They fit into the original studs. The humbucker is indeed a JB. The original trem was ok, but I was constantly having to retune. With the Gotoh, I tuned maybe once every three songs at practice last night. Which is about how often I retune most of my guitars. It's a great unit that has made this guitar even more enjoyable to play.
