The YJM Fury Pickups

I've heard one clip on YouTube where someone gives a demo of the new YJM Fury pickups. Anybody here have first hand experience with them? I've never cared much for the HS-3's but I'm thinking about trying a set of these new ones in my Malmsteen Strat.

What are the pickups supposed to sound like? I saw that video where they interview Yngwie and he talked about response and stuff. Are they designed to be hotter and have more bite? Not sure how much that guys other equipment contributed to the sound I heard.

Re: The YJM Fury Pickups

This is the big question. There is a long thread asking how they sound, but everyone seems to bash the signature artist rather than talk about how they sound. Youtube seems not to have any decent clips yet, but I think they are supposed to be a warm singlecoil with vintage tone but noisecancelling. I know Yngwie's preference is for lower o/p pups which transfer the tone of the wood.

Re: The YJM Fury Pickups

I've had them in an import Strat for the last month and they're coming out the first chance I get. It's not that there's necessarily anything wrong with them, I suspect that I would not like any stack humbucker and I'm pretty confident that I don't like super hot pickups at all. It's possible the attributes that make these a great pick-up for shredders, metal or high gain players conflicts with the predominantly clean and overdriven bluesy style that I prefer. Sorry, I couldn't be more elaborate.

Re: The YJM Fury Pickups

Well, FWIW, I have them in my modified YJM Strat right now. At the same time, I got an Antiquity (Surfers) set for my other Strat, so I've been kind of comparing back and forth between both sets.
I gotta say, the YJM set is great! I especially love the bridge pickup. I'm still trying to get used to the neck YJM pickup. Both are relatively healthy in output (compared to the old HS-3 and DM YJM's) - maybe a tad hotter than the surfer set, but I wouldn't qualify them as "high output".
The bridge pickup is really greatly voiced. Searing with good bite. Not too bright though - excellent for power rock. Actually, out of all the bridge stacked pickups I have tried (HS-3, DMZ YJM, Bill Lawrence L290SL, L280SL, Duncan classic stack plus), this one is by far my favorite. It's nowhere near as expressive or gets as many different voicings as the bridge Antiquity Surfer, but for a stack it has a great balance between vintage and modern voice.
The neck pickup is a little too mellow for my taste. It is not as bright and it is more violin-like.
It is a little hollow sounding, yet kind of soft but with a healthier output and not as bright as the DMZ YJM.
IMO, the best neck stack is the Bill Lawrence L290SN (sadly discontinued) - I'm still getting used to the YJM neck.
Overall though, I much prefer the Duncan set to the DMZ set, so I think if anyone was happy with the DMZ's, they'd be REALLY happy with the new SD's.

Yngwie just completed a new album and it's currently getting pressed. It was recorded 100% with these pickups. So you'll hear them in action very soon.

Re: The YJM Fury Pickups

I currently have a set of Dimarzio Virtual Vintage Blues in my Malmsteen Strat. They sound pretty good but the guitar is still bright. I wonder if I got a set of the Fury pickups if it would tame a little of the treble. According to the tone chart the Fury bridge pickup has more bass than the Dimarzio I'm using, and it has more mids as well. Then it has a tiny bit less treble too.

Anybody else that has tried the Fury pickups don't be afraid to post your observations.
