Ok, this may seem pretty basic, but I haven't actually seen any threads on it. Are the little screws on the top of my humbucker adjustable, or are they hoding something together, what do they do?

I know that they probably focus the magnetic flux lines, but can I do anything to them?

Fyi, I have a JB, '59, and two Lovers

I kind of feel dumb for posting this, as it probably is the first thing one should know about this stuff. :smack:

Re: Them screws on my buckers...

they are the individual pole pieces, you can screw them up or down a little if you find the tone a little unbalanced across the 6 strings.
It's not the first thing you should know about this stuff. The first thing is to know you have to buy a guitar.

Thanks, and you're right, the moment I started listening to Johnny Winter is when it hit me.

My guitar is balanced enough.

Re: Them screws on my buckers...

eight of the individual polepieces, which will affect the magnetic field around each string, so if you feel that a couple strings are too loud/quiet compared to the others you can raise/lower the polepieces to help balance everythign out

not somethign you really need to know, I would bet the vast majority of guitarists don't know and don't really care - only us techy bloke who like fiddling around
