Theodie's fretwork

I've had this Kramer Pacer Deluxe since 1985, and it's been my main (er, only) guitar until 2 years ago. So, after 20 years of playing, the frets were pretty shot, so I thought I'd let Theodie have a go at giving my old baby a refret.

Theodie did a fantastic job, and I highly recomend his work. Plus he's got a cool collection of guitars!

mmmm...new frets are good!:

What's this? Could it be my latest Warmoth project trying to move in on my Kramer's turf?

Wait...there's something funny about that guitar:

Why, it's a Blues Saraceno/A2 59 hybrid! How did it get in there?

Truth be told, the Graphtech Ghost system ruined the tone (Theodie still thought it sounded awesome). My hunch is that it's the saddles, so I'm going to swap them back to the standard steel ones. If that doesn't work, I'll try to bypass the ghost onboard amp to see if that fixes the tone. I hope it's the second possibility, as I'd like to be able to keep the Ghost system.

Here's a bump for Odie's work. Great guy who does a great job.

Re: Theodie's fretwork

Nice work, Dave! Cool axes MattPete :)

Re: Theodie's fretwork

i hear a good fret job can make a cheap guitar feel better than a custom shop, thumbs up to theodie! I have a feeling ill be shipping out a neck to you as soon as i play the living %^#@ out of my strat for a bit!

Re: Theodie's fretwork

Yep, Dave does great work. The frets were so worn that it was impossible to intonate.

Re: Theodie's fretwork

Thank you very much for the kind words and the review Matt!! Enjoy it brotha!!!

Hey MattPete: what, if I may ask, is the reason for putting the hums on your Strat project in "upside down"?

The neck is a Pearly Gates. I found it to be too dark in that guitar, so I did an experiment and switched it around. It helped a hair, but it's still too dark, so I'm going to swap it with something else, maybe an Alnico Pro 2.

As for the bridge pickup, I tried it both ways, and it sounded better with the Blues poles closer to the neck. I was going to replace the slug slide of the 59 with 59's screw bobbin so I could have some adjustability, but the pickup sounds great as is.

Re: Theodie's fretwork

I just had another look at the bridge, and I see what you mean by "upside down".

I first made the Blues/59 hybrid last summer and tried it out in my swamp ash strat. It sounded so brown, that I decided that I needed to build a new guitar around it. In the meantime, I decided to put the Blues back together. When I was screwing the unlogo-ed bobbin back onto the baseplate, one of the screws went in a little crooked, piercing the coil and ruining it. That left me with the logo-ed Blues coil.

I suppose I could turn both coil around so that the logo was in the middle, but I never bothered.

Say do you only need the neck to do a refret or a whole guitar?
If its something common like at a strat, I just need the Neck!! I can attach it to one of my bodies to do the leveling and such. Let me know if you need it done, I will treat you right on it.
