There is NO way this tone is coming from an AC30...

im trying to find out what amps they used for this, but the video doesnt help much. any guesses on how they got that big chunky tone?

Re: There is NO way this tone is coming from an AC30...

1) Why do you think an AC30 is involved at all?
2) Any number of overdrive/distortion devices could have been connnected between the guitar and amp.
3) Any amount of post-processing could have been applied to the recorded sound.
4) I have to agree that the solo tone does not sound like a Gibson LP Special (or Junior Special). The instruments in the video may just be hired props.

cool - my son likes this show. I've heard this song way too many times. ;)

about the tone - it sounds similar to the AC30 on my tonelab le - - plus it's mixed with bass so it sounds bigger. Not saying it's a definitely an AC30 - - but I can get some nice chunky sounds from the model.

You can see a vox combo behind and to the left of that front guy.
ac30's have some crunch in that top boost channel when cranked. With a pedal to tighten it up a lil, and some creative studio work like mic placement, double tracking, EQing and compression, that amp could imaginably cop that sound all day.

Re: There is NO way this tone is coming from an AC30...

actually the second i heard the guitar i had no reason to doubt an ac 30 may be involved. people always talk about the twang and chime when it comes to vox....but if you crank those bad boys hard they get NASTY in the best way possible. mini buckers and an ac 30 cranked to exploding sounds very down and dirty. I dig it

Re: There is NO way this tone is coming from an AC30...

Rory Gallagher got some amazing crunchy sounds out of an AC30 and a freaking strat (don;t forget the treble booster).

The handwired AC15/30s can get a darker crunch tone like that without any pedals.

Re: There is NO way this tone is coming from an AC30...

never played a handwired one. I wanna blast that ef86 channel and see what that feels like.

Re: There is NO way this tone is coming from an AC30...

someone here posted about a band consisting of a guitarist and a DJ a long time ago, i checked it out and the guitar was straight up nasty and big in your face fuzz sounding. It was an epiphone with mini buckers running into an ac-30, its the reason i started wanting an ac-30

Re: There is NO way this tone is coming from an AC30...

I've seen Rooney a couple of times live, and I know their guitarist used to play through a Tophat King Royale which is just a boutique AC30 as well so I'm fairly certain an AC30 or a boutique version thereof is exactly what you're listening to there.

Re: There is NO way this tone is coming from an AC30...

I use an AC-15 and it doesn't sound like a stock Vox AC series amp to me. I'm thinking that guy probably has a pedal or two boosting the amp to sound like that. Vox amps when driven naturally seem to have a edgy, kinda dry sounding crunch (and can get fizzy with a treble booster ala Queen), but not as much as depicted in that clip.

Gimme just a lil and I'll show you what an AC30CC can do.

Re: There is NO way this tone is coming from an AC30...

Maybe not just the VOX but with pedals and post production I reckon it could easily be an AC30 sounds closer to the VOX then a Marshall or Mesa would

Re: There is NO way this tone is coming from an AC30...

you guys are right, i guess its a vox overdubbed and compressed and thoroughly EQed. i thought it was a bad ass rock tone. athe one on the song seems to be missing lot of frequencies from the 6-8k region. it isnt fizzy, like Trevorous' clip. I have plugged into an AC30, more than you'd think. While I know it can handle some gain, I could never get the amp to sound like it does on the song without any pedals or anything. I was referring to my experience with the amp (which was with a dry signal). woah, i guess i wasnt really right after all! I bet we can all agree that those arent the guitars heard on the recording though.
