thickest, warmest (maybe even darkest) chorus pedal?

Im looking for a chorus pedal, still.
I had a Small Clone a few years back that I loved.
I had to get rid of it.
I tried a couple different small clones that are more recently made.
They sound different than what I remembered.

I tried a Nano Clone.... yuck.
I tried a Neo Clone, and it was noisy. Crazy, because its the same as a Small Clone, but it is in a smaller housing.

I had a TC Corona Chorus and it was really nice, but I ended up sending it back because it was just too bright. I couldnt get a really thick sounding chorus from it. It was good, but not what I wanted.

Do you have any recommendations?

Sure you don't want a flanger?

EHX can't build a decent sounding chorus to save their lives IMO.

Find a Boss CE-2 on the used market. If that's out of your price range and/or unavailable, the MXR Analog Chorus is almost as good.

or get a ce3 and mod it for ce2 sound in stereo...

or the big yellow mxr is really good.

thickest chorus i ever heard/tried...

Re: thickest, warmest (maybe even darkest) chorus pedal?

My fav chorus is the Boss DC-2 however it sounds really bad in mono IMHO so for a mono chorus I use a CE-2.

Good call.

DOD (Digitech) made a wonderful thick chorus in the 80's called a stereo turbo chorus. Two chorus units in one box, so one fed into the other. I love mine- like a big fat milkshake where the spoon stands up in the middle of the glass.

Boss CH-1, I've had it for over 20 years, and there's a reason.

Peace,

Re: thickest, warmest (maybe even darkest) chorus pedal?

Many years ago I had an Ibanez SC10 that sounded warmer than my BOSS CE. These should be dirt cheap by now. My only problem was a construction flaw: the jack slots were mounted to the PCB only and not to the chassis. There's nothing a little modding can't cure, though.

I'm really liking my Hardwire CR-7 Chorus. There are so many sounds to choose from that I'm sure you would like at least one or two settings on it. This is the Biggest sounding chorus I've ever owned.

Like you, I have never really bonded with the EH chorus pedals. I have a Hardwire and like some of the tones I get from it. I Also use the Digitech Chorus factory ( with lots of fiddling ) can really produce some great warm chorus effects. However all that being said, My favorite chorus pedal (at this time :) ) happens to be the Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus ( this is the late 90's 18 volt model). As I have told others in this forum, it is the only chorus I have owned that brings a smile to my face when I play it. It is warm and .... well, I do not want to use the word thick, but it has body to it. It fills in at all the right areas. I play a lot of acoustic open chords high on the neck and those strings really need to ring through and this one allows it with out dulling but also, without adding shrill to the mix.

Hope this helps. I would recommend the aforementioned Digitech Chorus Factory too. I like the different flavors of emulated pedals it incorporates.

Re: thickest, warmest (maybe even darkest) chorus pedal?

I hope I don't get flamed for this but MXR EVH Phase 90.

Script button down, knob around 8:00 or 9:00. The result? Warm shimmer without modulation sweep.

Otherwise Small Clone with the depth button "up".

Re: thickest, warmest (maybe even darkest) chorus pedal?

Protone makes a 'Lithium Chorus' that's basically a Small Clone circuit with better quality parts and an extra knob (rather than just the depth switch). I find it's much deeper and warmer than the Boss CE-5 that I used to use.

I am really interested in this one!
