Thin Lizzy: Emerald....wicked LP's video

Re: Thin Lizzy: Emerald....wicked LP's video

Is this the one from the L&D video? (I cannot watch youtube here at work)...

I found this a couple weeks ago if it is...VERY cool..but Robbo is WAYYYYY too drunk, he flubs alot of the solo. The Album/CD version he is *ON*

But that's my fave Lizzy song...dueling les Pauls through sev Marshall stacks...don't get no better! :bigthumb:

Can't say if it's from L&D, I've got it on vinyl but dont' have anything to play it on to compare to the video.

Cool!!! I checked out "Cold Sweat" too.. low budget, but definitely cool. Phil's voice sounds great live.. love those Les Pauls and Marshalls together.

Re: Thin Lizzy: Emerald....wicked LP's video

Thats awesome, Lynott has one of those voices you can instantly recognize. Thin Lizzy was one of the greatest rock bands, with their dual lead guitar lines and amazing music.

Re: Thin Lizzy: Emerald....wicked LP's video

Yep, that's from the "Live and Dangerous" video/DVD. It was recorded at London's Rainbow Theatre in early '78. It's not the same version that appears on the album/CD - the recordings for that were taken from the '76 and '77 tours.

Robbo was always winging it - I don't think he does too bad here! Though by this time he had been out of the band for much of '77 (during the recording of Bad Reputation) and was shortly to leave again for good, so relations between he and Phil were probably strained! By the time they played the gig in Sydney (Oct '78) that is released on DVD as "The Boys Are Back In Town" Gary Moore was on board.

Scott Gorham is one of the most underated guitarists ever!

That is definatly a rocking video. Thin Lizzy rock. I was just listening to the Mastodon version of Emerald when I seen this post :headbang:

Re: Thin Lizzy: Emerald....wicked LP's video

Yup thats the L&D vid version....I agree Robbo took chances alot and that was part of his charm as a player, but he kinda stumbled his way through that night I thought (as well as all over the stage, LOL)..compared to the album/CD, it pales...but then again nothing much compares to that album..the shows recorded for the album both Scott and Brian were absolutely on fire. Love watching Brian play a whole song with that frigging cigarette burning down in his picking hand :laugh2:

Regardless it's still great playing...and my fave lizzy song...classic Marshalls on 10/les paul tone...and the band is tight :bigthumb:

and yeah, Scott is really underrated....he's the "finesse" guy...he does the more complex chord work, and the more lyrical/melodic leads. It also doesn't help though that he always tends to be buried in the mix.

I could live without all those shots of his arse in those tight white pants though. :smack:

There is a bootleg DVD of Lizzy at Dublin National Stadium in 1975, promoting the "Fighting" album. It was originally shown on Irish TV. At the start of "It's Only Money", either Scott or Robbo (my money's on the Glaswegian p1sshead :alcoholic) plays the riff one fret out and takes a while to notice - it's a real howler! There's some hilarious air-drumming by a guy in the audience too. It's a great show, that captures that post-Eric Bell pre-Jailbreak era when they were on the way up and still honing the twin-lead thing. :fing2:
