Thinking about Parallel Axis Trembuckers: Any info?

Hey guys.

I'm looking at replacing the pickups in my Patrick Eggle Climaxe guitar (again) and am thinking about the Parallel Axis pickups for something a bit different. They're 1 type of pickup I don't see mentioned too much so thought I'd ask.

The guitar has an Ash body with an Anegree (not sure on spelling) cap, maple neck and a rosewood fingerboard, floyd rose trem and graphite nut. Here is a thread I made when I 1st got the guitar, just incase anyone wants anymore info on it: https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?t=151386&highlight=climaxe

The guitar currently has a set of Bareknuckle Holydivers in it but I'm thinking of taking those out and putting those in the Jackson DK2M I've recently bought. That would leave me with a JB (doesn't work with my amps) and a Jazz (would probably put this in the neck of the Eggle) going spare.

My main issue is that I'm not after anything tonally specific from this guitar, which is making it difficult to narrow down pickups for it. I have the '80s shred axe' thing covered with some other guitars, aswell as the 'do everything/versatility' thing so I'm kind of at a loss as to where to go with this guitar.

Musically I'm pretty much in the 70s and 80s Rock and Metal (nothing br00talz) camp and ampwise I use a Splawn Quick Rod and Soldano SLO clone so pickups with a lot of mids (like a JB) tend to not work out too well for me.

Thanks for any info or suggestions anyone can offer.

Thanks.

Craig

My favorite of the Parallel Axis pickup series it's the PATB-3 and I've never been dissapointed with it in any guitar I've played with it, but I wouldn't say it's got a lot of mids... for a slightly boost in the mids I would say the Original Parallel Axis would be more of what you are looking for IMHO. I just prefer the honky, snappy and sweet PAF tone from the PATB-3.

The only one I've tried so far is the PA distortion. VERY middy and hot. Very cool coins in my Custom 24 though.

Sorry guys. My original post should've said middy pickups don't work too well with my amps.

That makes a lot more sense! I thought that the Splawn and the SLO were both pretty middy sounding amps so your statement struck me as odd, but now I understand. In that case the original or the blues would work best.

Thanks for the info so far guys.

I typed my original post quickly, I should've been working :biglaugh:, and didn't read it through before I hit submit.

Is the PATB-3 similar to a PAF in feel then?

Middy amps? Dont bother with the parrallel axis pickups, try an Sh5 Custom

Re: Thinking about Parallel Axis Trembuckers: Any info?

I have a patb3 in my RG570. It is a really fat sounding pup and makes the guitar sound really chunky. Ill try to run it thru the splawn in the next few days to give a more detailed review of the pup/splawn combo..

Re: Thinking about Parallel Axis Trembuckers: Any info?

I'll just chime in that the PATB-3 Saraceno has become my favorite pup since installing it in my LP.

Thanks.

I had a custom in a Dean ML a long time ago and it was alright from what I remember.

A good mate of mine has a Custom in his Washburn so I may borrow it and see how it fares.

Thanks Bryan. I'll be interested to hear how you get on :)

Thanks Artie.

I've read Orpheos blog on here and he likes a PATB3 in a LP too.

Re: Thinking about Parallel Axis Trembuckers: Any info?

From what I read, PATBs are on middy side of EQ spectrum to balance out the thinness Floyd Rose and other tremolos give. Hope that helps.

Thanks, it does help.

They're looking like the front runner atm due to I think a custom may be a bit too bright in an ash bodied guitar with floyd rose.

Re: Thinking about Parallel Axis Trembuckers: Any info?

I have a few PATB-1 pickups and they are great.

check them out. if you think they are too bright for ash and you don't want to tweak the knobs on your amp, they always do well in the secondary market.

I had a PATB-1n in the neck of one of my guitars for a long time that I really loved. I just sold it for a mere pittance on Ebay too, you badly-timed bastard. :p
