Thinking of a New Investment!

Guys I've hit a fortune here. I really have, it seems I'm having money slung all over me. I've already done a huge investment into my rectifier. Now still after that I have some cash, although I'm definately not going to buy anything till my amp is paid for completely whic could be done with realitive ease I'm just stretching out the payments.

Anyway so I've been looking at Jacksons more seriously. Something to pair up with my awsome stratocaster. So of course the soloist, my RR3 is a great guitar (after setup), now I'm digging into the Jackson SL1 USA Soloist Electric Guitar.

About as much as an investment to my amp. So I guess my question is:

$2,000 is that worth it. If I really spend that much money on this guitar will it really be worth it. Or could I find a guitar for just as much bang for lesser $$$?

Alot of things catch my eye:

Jackson SL-3

SL1 USA Soloist

Who could forget:

SL2H Custom USA

And of course this is a Jackson USA Soloist! So were talking top of the line metal mayhem! I don't know if anything could take its claim to the glory of what that guitar would be.

I'm always one thinking, whatever you do make it an investment, and no doubt this guitar would be just that. And with an MIA series strat, and then a MIA Jackson Soloist, 2 beautifully constructed guitars. I think my axe hunger would come to a close.

So to me it would seem worth it. What do you all think?

Re: Thinking of a New Investment!

Let me say this, forget about musicians friend for buying a jackson. They are so overpriced there it's rediculous. Soloists can be had for much less new. Also unless you just really want a custom paint job then don't worry about buying a custom soloist as the paint job is what your paying for. You'd be just as happy with an SL1 or SL2 in a normal color.

Re: Thinking of a New Investment!

If you want to save some cash and get a USA Jackson, find a used one. You'll be looking at $800-$1200 depending on model and condition. If you want a guitar that is just as good, but perhaps a little older and MINT condition is not the biggest concern, look for a Japanese Charvel 650xl. The only difference between it and the SL1 is the rosewood fretboard and non-recessed trem. I've got one and it slays practically every other metal guitar I've ever tried, including USA Jacksons.

If, however, you're looking at it in a purely investment standpoint, get something fairly rare and old. Something that will appreciate in value. If you're buying anything brand new, be prepared to lose a boatload on resale value, even more if you go custom shop. If you're going to be keeping this guitar for the rest of your life, then buy new and get exactly what you want. Then, no matter what the cost, it will be "worth it."

Re: Thinking of a New Investment!

The Jackson SL3 caught my attention with the Transparent Red paint job. Its just about a grand so I'd be saving some cash. Looks simliar to the LTD I was interested in, except Jackson. :)

Any opinions on the SL3?

Great guitars, and they can be found basically mint on rare occasions. I know mine is but I lucked out and got a steal of a deal with mine.

Once again they can be had for less than 1000. But I'd pass on any SL3 and get a used USA if money was an issue.

Re: Thinking of a New Investment!

Well I have alot of things in mind. So if the bridge is a problem on the SL3 I can have it replaced with gold hardware original floyd rose. Along with tuners, and the locking nut. It would be a sharp looking guitar. That could help the tuning stability of the instrument and overcome most of the complaints of the guitar. And still keep me under 1,500$.

But still a SL1 tempts me bad. I'm going to put alot of thought in this.

Well also do you want a rosewood fretboard or ebony??? I love ebony fretboards and they look sharp as hell on a soloist.

Re: Thinking of a New Investment!

I'd like to go ebony. They do look sharp, I was actually just looking into the basic black paint job, but then again some of those designs are very catchy. Even the burnt cherry burst.

Bro where did you buy your SL1 at? I don't know if your familiar with the Lexington area but I went to a guitar shop and they had a **** load of Jackson so probably they are a dealer. I was thinking about visiting them, but where did you get yours?

Did you buy new or used?

Re: Thinking of a New Investment!

R u using the term "investment" loosely, or do u really see buying those instruments as being good investments?

Re: Thinking of a New Investment!

2006 SL3s will have an OFR. Still Japanese guitars. I've never played or seen any I'm affraid :(
An SL1 for 2,000 dollars? That's a pretty darn high price if it's non graphic.

I'm not extremely familiar with Lexington, only been a couple times. I got mine used but it was mint from Ebay.

Re: Thinking of a New Investment!

Try vwall guitars and Matt's Music Center. They'll ship it to you. You need to email them for pricing and such.

Re: Thinking of a New Investment!

I got mine (SL2H) for $1300, but had sat in the store for quite some time. I had looked at others, including the SL3, but none had exactly what I wanted. I couldn't come to grips with paying over $1000 for a guitar and having to immediately spend money to upgrade it. It was one of the few guitars that came with an OFR, and that was probably what sealed my fate. That, or when I finally played one. There's really nothing like them.

I don't think it's the best investment instrument, but it will hold its value better than some. If you're wanting something to play and possibly sell many years down the road it would be a good guitar. If you're wanting something to put in a case and turn around and sell in 30 years I think you could do better.

yes, please.

dont deal with MF or those other ripoffs.

go to a real dealer

and i say sl2h, but that is my preference. i hate hss setups with a passion

oh yea.. and when you're at throwing cash around.. can you buy me the axe in my avatar? :D

Re: Thinking of a New Investment!

I agree with Davey. SL2H. Hate HSS setups. F Musicians Friend. and I'd like to add shop ebay until it hurts. I waited a long time to find my KV2 in the finish i wanted however just happened to stumble on it a few weeks after i was ready to buy. Good timing.

+1 for VWall Guitars.

I agree, go with the SL-2H. My Limited Edition was from a small batch ordered through VWall Guitars and I couldn't be happier with it.

Re: Thinking of a New Investment!

Didn't read all the posts, but definately go used. I got my RR-1 for 1050 shipped, and sold it for 1100. Definately not a loss at all.

I'd prefer the SL1, but I like SC's in the neck for leads.
