This is a guitar forum, right?

nuntius

Boogeyman of Tone
I take it we're all here because we like to play and listen to guitar music in general.

So why's this room so dead?

theres only a handfull of us who post stuff and not many more who even check it out, come on guys!!!

We need some more jams going again, that got some life into the room temporarily.

More people should post here, with critiscism of playing also, so we all know where we're going wrong, thats how i see the "tips" bit comes into this room as well.

if anyone doesnt know where to upload songs to use this site : www.soundclick.com

and no excuses.

Re: This is a guitar forum, right?

This would be better in the other forums mate. One of the main reasons I post rough stuff is to show you don't need perfection to post in here. Both you and I post stuff that's far from 'worked' but it gives a pretty good idea what you are about. that's how I like it. Too clincal isn't where I'm at - I like it live - first take - post and be damned - warts and all (thanks Ollie Cromwell).

Re: This is a guitar forum, right?

As soon as I get the POD Guitar Port.. which might either be a week or two months :P.. I will be posting more and more, regardless of the quality.

Only one way we can improve remember =)

Good post Nuntius!

Re: This is a guitar forum, right?

hmm yeah i might post this in the sound room, coz that seems where a lot of people go. duno what the admins would do about a double post.

im with you on the first take thing, i improvise all except one of my solos on the my soundclick site, and rely on technique to keep mistakes to a minimum... I'd rather leave a mistake in a shot that had some really good bits in than try and re do it... if i try and re do an improvisation note for note the mojo goes and then theres no point.

Re: This is a guitar forum, right?

Ok, ok, I have a bluesly track that I will post in a few days.

Don't get angry with me. ;) :laugh2:

Re: This is a guitar forum, right?

I have a question for you all. You know when you learn, lets say a solo, and you play it - and you REALLY feel it... you really feel that vibe, it excites you. Then later, you've already played that 100 times, and you've lost that feeling. Take a technically proficient player, and record him the first time, and then record that same solo 100 plays later when the excitement has worn off.

Would you be able to hear the loss in vibe on the latter clip?

What you haven't twigged yet is that not everyone has your natural talent.
Not everyone out there that want to be a 'shredder' will get anywhere near it.

Many (if not most) have to settle for 'pretty amateur'. When they realise this they often become guitar and gear collectors. It becomes the core interest to them. Think about it - how many really good players do you bump into?
How many guitars are sold each week? And the funny thing is that good players are rarely obsessed with gear.

Gotta go to work - shouldn't be here.

Re: This is a guitar forum, right?

I agree, Nuntius is an awesome guitar player who seems to just naturally whip out top stuff with seemingly no effort at all!

And I also agree, looking for gear to 'compensate' (for the lack of a better term) lack of skill is a lot easier than practising hard and putting the hard yards in.

Re: This is a guitar forum, right?

A question I've always wondered is how do people just know what notes to play? Of course experience is of paramount importance, but how do you get there? Scales? Modes? Theory?

Re: This is a guitar forum, right?

i hate that fact too...and i am one of those of whom you speak...!!!

but....

i don't have the ability to record at home...but i do have some stuff recorded...check my sig...

and i am only on here primarily at work with no speakers on my pc...

when and if i'm in here at home...i have a 28k modem (actually usually connects at around 24k) and it takes forever and a day to listen to something!!!!

i hate that!!! but unfortunately i only have one other alternative for connection where i live and it's over $50 bucks a month as opposed to the $12 bucks i pay now...

maybe one of these days...?!

Re: This is a guitar forum, right?

well i still got some stuff to listen to at my link below........but i really should be posting more stuff......its just that im mostly outside most of the day hangin out with buds......eh......

I agree completely.

a bad player will always sound bad no matter what gear they have, to me unless they want something to hang on their wall they should leave the PRS's till they can do them justice, they wont help them play better.

I disagree about natural talent though. To some extent it exists, but there is no such thing as natural talent without a lot of practise. Steve vai couldnt play like he can straight away, you can only imagine how much of his life has been spent practising guitar.

Rainmaker - to your question about solos over and over, i'm not 100% sure..

i'd say yes but i saw the eagles last year and the way they were playing blew me away, and the songs they play are songs they've played for 30 years... ok given a large gap inbetween but you get what i mean :D

the solo to hotel california made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, it was 1000000 times better than the original

Re: This is a guitar forum, right?

You are absolutely right. There are very few people in here, never more than say 10 people at the same time.
I feel I should be posting more clips since I have all the time and equipment here to make an ok recording but most of the time I don't have the patience to sit down and program a drum track and record something over it so it takes time to get a clip on here. - yup lame excuse :smack:.

Re: This is a guitar forum, right?

Hoss, sneak some headphones in and plug them into the back of the souncard .. :D

Re: This is a guitar forum, right?

I agree. More rock and less talk.
I am impressed with anyone who dares to put themselves out there :D

Re: This is a guitar forum, right?

lol i got an idea, next time theres a pointless argument in the sound room (hopefully there wont be) we'll settle it over an annoymous jam so its non biased, rest of us vote.

it'd occupy them for a few hours ;)

Re: This is a guitar forum, right?

Given the number of people obsessed with the likes of vai and satriani in here, I have doubts as to whether people would understand my music.

The whole search for "tone" and perfect "technique" in other peoples eyes is very unimportant to me and has nothing to do with why I play guitar. I don't practise to better myself per se, I practise and play to make myself sound more like I wanna sound.

To put it simply, I guess I don't post here for fear not being understood ;)

Plus, why does soundclick take so long to accept music? I've been waiting 5 days...

Rong, rong, rong.

Take football, for example.

Do you think that Wayne Rooney and Ranaldo were the only kids that ever played football in their gardens? Millions of kids do it all over the world - but only one or two reach the top. The difference is natural talent.

Does every chess player become a Kasparov?

Or every tennis player a Boris Becker?

No. They all have natural talent.

Guitar playing is just the same. Most will never get off first base as they are tone deaf. Others have no manual dexterity. Others have no imagination and are boring. Those that do go on to become great guitarists have ' natural talent'. You just have to polish the stone to become the gem. Remember - you can't polish a turd.
