This is just wrong

Re: This is just wrong

Somebody else posted about this last week, adding that it was the greatest thing since sliced bread and that he was GASsing very hard for one.

Re: This is just wrong

Yea.. but did Gibson not hear that weight relieved models were not very warmly regarded by a lot of players?

Re: This is just wrong

So they figured they take it to the next level and slice one in half cross section wise....

Re: This is just wrong

Think back a ways. What did Gibson do in the 70's - they took two LP jr bodies and glued 'em together. That brought about the pancake bodies.

Now we have Gibson buying back all them pancake body LP's so they can take 'em apart and resell them as weight relieved for
folk that don't want to put up with the weight a of a full strength LP.

Re: This is just wrong

Wow. What a tragedy. I guess you'll have to buy something else instead.

Re: This is just wrong

Yeah, what's the problem here?

Is someone forcing you to get one of these instead of a traditional Les Paul Custom?

Because that's pretty mean.

Re: This is just wrong

Maybe it is just me... but this seems to fall under the same category as the reverse flying V and reverse Explorer. You can also get an SG standard for slightly cheaper and have a light and thin bodies Les Paul'ish sounding guitar that has good access to the entire neck... But... if people dig it and it sells, then maybe I am just wrong :)

Re: This is just wrong

The only thing wrong about that guitar, in my opinion of course, is the rosewood fretboard. Hello? LP Custom, ebony finsh? It NEEDS the ebony board too!

Re: This is just wrong

I like two tone controls on a Les Paul. If I had to live with just one I'd wire it so it only works on the bridge pickup.

Because that's pretty mean.

And a custom shop les paul custom will have weight relief holes too, unless it is a historic reissue, so the OP is really screwed.

OP, Gibson has been doing some form of weight relief fordecades on everything but Historic Reissues. Its a tired old forum subject, may wanna do some research.

Re: This is just wrong

If Gibson had tried this five decades ago, the SG might never have existed.

Re: This is just wrong

The funny thing about that guitar, is that a better player than I would still sound better on it than myself playing my trad LP.

It's gonna make someone out there happy. I don't judge.

Re: This is just wrong

Well, it might make me consider getting a Les Paul. They're generally just too darn heavy for me to be able to play for a longer time, as I'm a weak little boy.

Re: This is just wrong

If I wanted a weight relieved Les Paul sound, I'd buy an SG. I agree that if it's a Custom, it needs am ebony fretboard as well.

Re: This is just wrong

Only problem with the weight relieved body is that i've heard it makes the guitar neck heavy and dives which is a big no no for me.
