As a practicing know it all, I don't think that would be an issue. To put pickups on a rotating wheel, you need a way to stop the wires getting twisted, and I would think all those methods would inherently only have the pickup currently in the up position wired in.

Having a second pickup in the circuit affects the inductance of primary pickup.

Having 6 extra pickups expands this

All I'm saying is that those pickups are not likely all in the circuit at the same time. A freely spinning wheel would almost certainly require it

and all active at any given moment

they could have a switch that opens and closes as they swing into position

I see that as having issues as well

If the pickup leads are on a wiper track that only connects when under the strings, the other pickups shouldn't have much affect, I'd think.

I'm sure that's what they're doing. Kinda like the commutator on a DC motor.
