This Is Without A Doubt The Greatest Strat Tone That I Have Ever Heard In My Life

I think I've read that those are Lace Hot Golds, but I also understand the compression and everything with his sound. Anyways, what type of Duncan pickups do you think could get close to that sound?

To me, that is the absolute most perfect clean sound of all time!!

I always thought that Robbie Blunt's guitar tone on Robert Plant's sh!t was the perfect Strat tone until I saw this the other day.

That's a pretty awesome sound. I love the pearly strat.

I'd say a lot of that is an awesome vintage blackface era Fender Twin. I think practically any decent strat wind could get that.

For mine the modern Fender pickups do that chime better than Duncan - even the Fat 50's seemed to have more of it than the ant Surfers when I did a back to back a few years back.

If you think it's Hot Golds then get some Hot Golds. Don't let the name cool you, they feel less hot than the standard Golds. The bad reviews you hear about Lace Sensor in a large part is people who hear buy them expecting to get a single coil tone, but then they hear a pickup design that does it's own thing, and they are disappointed. Don't be afraid to branch out and try new things.

I also agree that his sound is probably 90% his amplifier. You could have the perfect Strat set in the world, but won't get even close if you choose the wrong type of amp.

One of my favorite things to do is crank my Egnater clean channel up high enough to where it is just beginning to clip the big tubes and play my Strat there. Of course, have to let the dogs outside, and make sure no one is home. I'm just running Beck's Noiseless Pups in mine . . . you know those ones so many people seem to hate? They seem to work fine for me from that high volume clean through Gilmour's melodic stuff which is where most of the stuff I've even done myself lies [on the Strat]. I break out the HB guitars when I want to get filthy.

Tone city

Not even close now THIS---well?

Re: This Is Without A Doubt The Greatest Strat Tone That I Have Ever Heard In My Life

Even further away.......can't hear anything but the amp compression there.

Hershel Yatovitz is a terrific player. He sat in on one of our jams here in Portland and I got to play with him. Can't remember what we played...it was about 10-12 years ago, but he is a master of tasty fills. I sang lead on a few songs and it was just so cool to have him behind me. He had that pearl guitar with him...very cool. I remember that he liked my Fiesta Red G&L Legacy, too. Really nice guy. Isaak is lucky to have him.

Nothing wrong with Laces (not my cup of tea though) - take a look at regular user youtube vids to see if that's your thing, though. It'll probably be closer to what you can expect.

Good sauce - a great guitar with nice pickups, a Blackface amp, and a sprinkling of compression and ... is it reverb or delay?

Re: This Is Without A Doubt The Greatest Strat Tone That I Have Ever Heard In My Life

Toilet seat is pretty amazing tone wood.

That guy is mighty tasty sounding.

I'll say the Reverb is perfect...

Nobody has come up with SD's that come close yet have they? Guitarists Attention Deficit Disorder

In case you didn't look at the Tone Report interview - "my Fender custom pearloid Strat with Rio Grande pickups" not Lace

Just based on Chris' overall stylized sound and how Hershel fits in the Cali 50's set would be my first choice, especially since you dig Robbie Blunt too.

The Zephyr's would be wild to try, just saying :outahere:

Beautiful tones and an equally beautiful song!! I doubt many care, but I always loved that song. One day about 15 years ago, I heard the version by HIM with my son. He was about 12, it lead to his 1st guitar and even me into guitar years later. Man he can play, but doesnt wanna learn any theory at all. I watch his technique and just SMH thinkin how awesome he could be. Hes been "stuck" in a rut and wont try to get out of it. Damn shame

Those don't look like Lace hot golds. The Lace hot golds that I know have no pole pieces, having a typical Lace Sensor design.

Maybe Lace Holy Grails, perhaps?

I don't think those are Lace Golds because you can see polepieces and Laces have plastic covers. But that doesnt mean Laces weren't used on the original recording. I would think SSL-1's would be close.

They're not Laces they're Rio Grandes
