This Les Paul

I found this Epiphone Les Paul at a local pawn shop for 200 bucks. It came with softcase and paperwork. It's officially called Epiphone Les Paul Limited Single Cut Alpine White (2nd).It has a 2nd stamped into the back of the headstock.

Here is what is interesting-I compared it to my 1960 Gibson SG special tribute. The Tribute had slightly more mids and no bass. This had a nice thick bass and plays modern music like a dream. Long story short, if I covered the headstock, you would not know it was an Epiphone. I was amazed. This thing can seriously rock. Not your typical epi by a long shot. Grab em if you can.

Yeah it's a set neck and I'm gonna open the back panel later to see if they have stepped up on the electronics. But wow.

Nice score.

TBH if I was trying to catagorise Epi vs Gibson I would point precisely at what you found as being the norm. The typical Gibson tone is not heavy and thick....more open and barky - especially with SG's. Having had a Gibson SG and the Epi G400 side by side, the comparison was precisely like what you found.

Just for fun, I compared my p90 SG(300k pots), Epi(500k), and Custom Tele with strat quarter pounders(250k).

Sorry for the quality, straight from the katana straight into my phone. And sorry for my playing as well. Lol.
