This made me laugh !

Re: This made me laugh !

Amusing to say the least. Though perhaps overstated, some really valid points.
Of course, the message won't be popular on a forum where people obsess over new/different gear and which is best.

That's because we're discerning enough to appreciate it when a band has good live sound.

Re: This made me laugh !

I could agree with every point he tries to make (and I often do), but there's a difference between not catering to people's emotions and calling someone a c**t because they don't agree with you.

He doesn't leave anything open for discussion, instead choosing to think that his opinion is the only valid one.

Re: This made me laugh !

I've watched a few of his videos, while he generally has a good point buried in there, his over the top presentation shtick gets old fast. Based on what I've seen, I will assume he runs a small studio that records "core" style metal bands. So every piece of advice is targeted at those type of bands, and usually young ones. Of course, he records digitally, and now that he's sponsored by some plug-in company, that's the answer to everything.

I watched one entitled "how to get a good bass tone". He should have continued the title as "for nothing but extreme metal."

I watched the one where he tells bassists to replace strings often and that's well and good for a metal sound, but I prefer old strings (especially flats) for a rock sound.

Re: This made me laugh !

The basic premise is spot on. You do not need high end gear to get a "good" tone. However, there is no need to tear down people that use high end gear. Especially making the assumption that people buy good gear to compensate for talent. His anger is also unsettling. Who cares what someone else uses for gear, plays or their skill level. If someone enjoys playing the instrument that is all that matters. If something like that enrages you to the point you need to make a YouTube video, seek help.

Yeah, thats why I give up roids... Everytime I was in guitar center and someone asked to play one of the "behind the counter" Gibsons, I wanted to bludgeon them with the Squier in my hands... Thankfully for Preparation H, I have no more hemorrhoid rage...
