This may be the better priced 2019 Gibson

Satin ES235 $1,399 - it feels like a decent price for a semi.

I think satin is ok and I guess if you really want it you could buff it to get some gloss.

What do you think?

Looks pretty nice. I think it would look better with an ebony fret board and split parallelagram inlays though.

Pretty sure that would increase the price to $7,500 lol

I'd go a couple hundred more for white, Pelham or something like that. I absolutely plan on trying a few of these

Re: This may be the better priced 2019 Gibson

It's probably an assembly of QC fail bodies and unacceptable rosewood boards and/or factory second necks.

They're saying it's a "Custom Shop" product, how else would you explain this level of "generosity"?

Seems like a hell of a lot of value at that price point.

While I’m not as skeptical as Adieu, I’d definitely try before buying. If it’s got the tone and feel but is a little rough around the edges, I’d accept a little nut/fret end/setup work for a US made semihollow for less than $1500.

If it's rough around the edges and needs nut, fret, setup, and finish work...what then is the benefit of American made, again?

Those pickups you plan to swap out anyway?

Or was it feeding the living dead, propping up a local "champion" most of whose practices we disapprove of, and thereby helping keep the domestic music instrument industry back from any semblance of progress?

Ymmv... but if I wanted to feed big American music business, I'd much rather give money to somebody who makes an effort to get it right - FMIC, PRS, Mesa Boogie etc.

As to high-ish end hollowbodies for $1500ish, there's a few boutique-ey Japanese brands with some sexy stuff you can mailorder

I’d rock it. Satins can be sleepers. Wood doesn’t need to be cosmetically perfect. It just needs to be sonically ideal for what I need.

For the record, FMIC is no better than Gibson. I’ve had some Gretsch and Fender dogs that suffered all the same QC problems people slam Gibson for.

He was asking opinions. I gave mine, which echoed yours, to a lesser extent. Why talk down to me, man? I’m not a ****ing moron because I don’t hate what you hate...

Damn, who hurt you?

Re: This may be the better priced 2019 Gibson

I get the sense that someone here must have been violated at some point by a 50's profile Gibson neck with a broken headstock. Or worse; maybe it happened with the headstock included ...

Re: This may be the better priced 2019 Gibson

Obviously not the same guitar but similiar to the Godin Montreal Premiere. The Godin's list for a couple hundred bucks more but they can be had for less. Mine was right around 1K, new (SF/"blem").

What's up with the low E?

Re: This may be the better priced 2019 Gibson

Hey, that Godin is my guitar! Although mine came stock with OEM Jaz in the neck, and 59 in the bridge. I dig the Gibson, too, and would have considered it if it were available when I got mine like 8 months ago. But Gibson's lower priced semi hollows have never excited me, and their $$$ ones are hit-and-miss. I had a Howard Roberts (sort of a large semi hollow LP) for years, but man, it was bland.

looks like somebody at Gibson is beginning to see the light...that looks like a fine guitar at a competitive price...

They discontinued that color and the red one as well (and I think their was a natural too). They just have the Sunburst now. There are a few new variants now in different finishes but I'm glad I got my black one when it was still available.

I'm obviously missing something

...like where you perceived a personal attack or otherwise took offense
