This might be the simplest my pedalboard's ever been...

Good thing it won't stay that way for long.

I'm done with Velcro and just tied down my basic pedals with Zip Ties. I just wanna see how this works for me before going with the full bug with both pedals I have now and my planned purchases.

Left to right: a/b Box, TU-2, Crybaby 535Q, Fulltone OCD, CH1 (analog version), and Line 6 Echo Park.

So far it feels really sturdy... I turned the board upside down and shook it as hard as I could and the pedals didn't budge. :D I wouldn't have dared try that with velcro.

My beloved DC2 is staying home for the experiments, and the Echo Park's future is in question. I'd like to get all George-L's connectors just because they're more compact and sound very good, and I'll likely get a Voodoo Lab power unit and conceal that underneath the board as well. I probably won't tie the patch cables down so I can remove/replace them in an emergency.

Beat my pedalboard.

I used to have 8 pedals, now I have 2 on the board...

I usually just rehearse with a little delay in the loop and an overdrive running out front, I'm with ya on that one.

When I was at the height of my pedal-craze phase, I had 11 pedals on my board.

I don't mean to highjack your thread, but how are you powering the board?

The reason I ask is I am using a one spot and for the most part am very happy with it, but I would like to cut the power supply cables to a desired length, but it seems like a lot of work to get it done.

Not a hijack at all, my friend.

I'm currently using a 1-Spot hooked up to that daisy chain you see linking the pedals in the picture. It works but I'm told using the Voodoo Lab unit makes for much quieter operation as the power is cleaner and dedicated to each pedal.

Lately I have been wanting a super simple rig. I used to not care and at one point I had 5 dirt pedals and 3 modulation.

Now I only use my eternity clone (built by Rich here) to boost the amp and an electric mistress for the occasional beautiful intro. I also flip the sunface back and forth every two days so I should probably just stick to leaving it on there. It's TB and it doesn't take up that much room anyway.

I like your rig though. What amps/guitars are you using?

This thread just reminded me of this dude, I laughed because so many people are obssessed with buying crazy pedals, botique amps and CS guitars.

Some of the best tone I ever heard in my life came from this guy I saw the other day. 1989 Am Std. Strat - Beat up HRDX - DS-1, SD-1, Crybaby.:34:

A good delay and a tubescreamer are all I'll ever desire...

...and maybe some chorus

...and maybe a compressor

...and maybe a phaser

Awww damn, pedal gas...

Re: This might be the simplest my pedalboard's ever been...

I wish I could get mine that small. I have all my pedals on my board. I've found that having a board with empty space is not conducive to saving money :P

There's even more free space to the left. Just the knowledge that I could fit more on there gives me pedal GAS...

Holy crap, man! I've owned as many as 4 dirt boxes at once but never had more than three on deck.

Currently my modded-out Silo Special and a '97 Mesa/Boogie Tremoverb.

I'm all about simple rigs if I can get away with them. For a last two years I had my Carvin Legacy I was using an OCD and a Keeley DS1 as my main source of distortion and just running the amp clean, didn't sound that bad at all!

Yep. That's how it starts. I went about it in such a bass-ackwards way when I was a kid... bought everything and then weeded out stuff I didn't use. :D

I lay out my pedalboard on a table, mark off the boundaries with masking tape, measure, and then cut a board to that size.

The one shown is gonna be about just the right area for what I'll need.

Re: This might be the simplest my pedalboard's ever been...

I've just swapped the delay pedal on mine, but my board has always been pretty simple, just due to the lack of disposable funding!! :D

Although I'm gaining quite a collection of pedals cos I'm managing to hang on to the ones I'm replacing!

Re: This might be the simplest my pedalboard's ever been...

I could never have a twenty pedal board like Mike Einzenger or something. That just seems so confining. The options are supposed to liberate you, not trap you.

Pete Holstrum, John Frusciante....I don't know how they can do it. :eyecrazy:

I had a Modded DS-1 to sound like a JCM-800, Marshall Bluesbreaker (pedal), Russian Big Muff, Analogman Sunface, and a Bad Monkey.

Re: This might be the simplest my pedalboard's ever been...

i just redid my board a few days ago to be an eerily similar setup;
boss tuner, mxr overdrive, boss ce-3 chorus, mxr delay, hendrix crybaby, with a peavey footswitch. it feels very... naked in comparison to what it was, but i mostly got rid of dirt pedals.

Re: This might be the simplest my pedalboard's ever been...

Well I managed to pick up a BF2 for very cheap so the CH1 is up for sale right now. :D Check the trading post.

You and me both ;)

I had a pretty massive pedalboard myself at one time or the other. Multiple dirt pedals, every modulation effect you could think of, etc. I didn't end up writing very much music because I had so many toys to play around with. Writing is a lot easier with maybe one or two effects, one overdrive pedal and a tuner. You know it's pretty bad when there is a guaranteed issue at every gig you play (none of the venues had enough current available for all of the pedals). 95% of the time, I ended up say "falk it!" and bypassed them all just so that I could get a working signal for a set (especially in places where you have a 10 minute setup and soundcheck).

QUIT READING MY MIND!!!! i've been meaning to pick up a flanger myself and have been considering replacing the chorus with one.

Re: This might be the simplest my pedalboard's ever been...

I thought this was pretty minimal and unpretentious for the circumstances and an excellent all-purpose player.

[Note also that he's running on batteries.]

It's a rare dirtbox that doesn't suffocate your sound, obliterate your dynamics and generally mud-up your performance, and I'm only taking it on faith that one might even exist. I've got at least twenty dirtboxes and I hate all of them.

I've felt this way all along, but In the past year I'm finding more and more people coming to the same conclusion.

What are they? I'll take 'em off your hands for ya. ;)
