This reminds me...

after reading this thread:

i finally got the courage to humbly ask you tone-gurus a question.

let me start by describing my previous and current setup

previous rig:
guitar-> erniball volume (normal out) -> boss ns2 =(in the loop)> crybaby (stock) -> ts9 -> OCD v3 -> EHX BMP=> boss ns2 -> amp input =(fx loop send)> RETURN of vox tonlab se L/mono out to fx loop return
the tuner out of the volume goes to the INPUT of the tonelab

current rig:
similar, only crybaby is FIRST in the chain before volume pedal

now my question:
when the crybaby is on, i found that the sweep got much wider especially in the top end which is great as long as i control myself and not ice-pick the front-row to death. however, i also noticed i got A LOT more high-end in my signal with the wah off. its a standard crybaby stock so i know its not true bypass...

why?

incase you needed to know, i do run the TLSE as a modeller

Re: This reminds me...

is this right?
1. crybaby
2. volume
3 noise supressor
4 tube screamer
5 ocd
6 muff
7 another noise supressor?
8 amp input
9 modeller in the amp loop.

Re: This reminds me...

no. the noise suppressor has a loop so...
crybaby, volume, ns2 and send to 4,5,6 ^^^ to return of ns2. then out to amp
meanwhile im using the 'tuner out' of the volume to patch the crybaby to the modeller in the amp loop...
i would be much easier if i could draw it but as luck would have it, i suck at drawing and i have no working camera so my poor grammar is all you got :/

Re: This reminds me...

our ears don't perceive 50% signal as 50% volume, which is why audio taper pots were invented--they had a slightly "boosted" range that sounded like... 50% at halfway, for example.

Same sort of effect kicking on your crybaby, it has a slight volume boost, therefore it makes the swell seem more... audibly linear

Re: This reminds me...

have you tried just running all the pedals inline with no noise supressor or modeller?
Im thinking with all those ins and outs you are making it more complicated (and possibly thinner sounding) than it needs to be.
Pedal in/outs, amp fx/sends etc all have their own various impedances and requirements. Modellers are designed to stand alone and see just the pure guitar signal....i have a felling the issue is coming from impedance issues running the modeller in the loop. I think if you simplified your set up you also wont need a noise supressor, so youll get a clearer, better sounding signal. Guitar pedals especially are just designed to go inline from your axe.
Also RE; the wah there is a super easy mod you can do to tame the high end of the sweep....open it up, and look at the rack and pinion. unscrew the piece that holds the rack against the gear on the pot so its loose...roll the pot back one knotch and screw it back up tight...that way you have lowered the sweep range with no invasive surgery! So now you dont have to worry about "being careful to avoid the icepick".

I think I'll try it in line and see what happens thanks dude!
Also the wah 'issue' isn't really when it's on, but I've definitely have been flirting with the idea of opening it up. I think your recommendation seems like a good place to start. Thank you for all your replies! I'll let you guys know how it goes.
