This should start something...

Re: This should start something...

That doesn't bother me really. If it sounds good, then why not?

Re: This should start something...

Its a bit late to the party. I used to have a 94 Fender Strat that had an aluminum body. Around the same time i owned an Able axe i think it was called that was aluminum also. I'm sure those werent the first either. Travis Bean guitars were made with an aluminum neck and center section with wood wings in the mid 70's. If you want to count reasonator guitars metal bodies are much older even yet.

Re: This should start something...

John Veleno was making aluminum guitars in 1972

Travis Bean started building guitars with aluminum necks in 1974 and Gary Kramer dropped his aluminum neck guitars at NAMM in 1976...

Aluminum in guitar building is nothing new.

Re: This should start something...

Aluminium is actually a completely acceptable material for musical instruments. It has a density that is fairly close to wood.

Eh? Where you hear this? Aluminum is like 2.7kg/m3 Mahogany is like .5 to .8kg/m3 even ebony wont break 1.3kg/m3. So if half as dense is "fairly close" then I guess ok.

Brent Hinds Electrical Guitar V FTW.

That's like plexiglass though. Sounds awesome, but only the neck is aluminum. BTW saw them when they came to Chicago last year. It was amazing. They put on a great show, and Red Fang opening was awesome too.

Re: This should start something...

Isn't James Trussart making guitars out of steel? I've played a few of them (though wasn't sure they were actually steel) and they sound and play fantastically.
