This Strumming Pattern Is Killing Me... Help?

This song is so easy to play guitar to, and it's easy for me to sing, but the strumming pattern just kills me, and I can't ever do them together. Anyone have advice, because I haven't had problems with any other strumming patterns, just this one.

The usual advice for singing rhythm guitarists (and, for that matter, singing bassists) is to NAIL the instrument part to the point that you could play it in your sleep, then apply you mind to the vocal melody and dynamics.

the continuous 8th notes, or the strummed chords?
Just work out where the syllables of the lyrics land and practice it slowly until it starts to feel natural.
