This whole pot value issue has me confused

My plan was to assemble a HSS with a Fralin trembucker in the bridge, and a vintage hot in the middle and neck. I planned to use a 500k pot for the bridge pot with a.022 cap, and a 250k pot for the neck and middle with a .047 cap. For the volume pot, I planned to use a 250k pot . . . does this make sense, or should I use 250s all the way across, or use 500k for the volume . . . I am clearly uneducated on the topic - if there is a good reference point that anyone could direct me to it would be appreciated. If anyone has any suggestions they are very much appreciated as well. Thank you!

If I have this correct you want a 500k vol pot for the humbucker and a 250k vol pot for the singles with a 250k master tone? If that is the case you would wire the pots like a Jazz bass. http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=std_jazz_bass

Another options is for you to use a 500k resistor off the switch so the single coils see a 250k master volume with a master tone of whatever value.

Re: This whole pot value issue has me confused

I was thinking of a 250k pot for a master volume with a 250k pot for the single coil tone, and a 500k pot for the humbucker tone. What I am unclear on is the interaction between the 250k volume and 500k tone . . . does it matter? or does it make the whole effort of using a 500k tone for the humbucker worthless?

Re: This whole pot value issue has me confused

I know I mentioned this somewhere... I'd suggest one 500K concentric pot for volume and tone control exclusively over the humbucker, leaving 2 pots for vol and tone for single coils. (I assume this is for a HSS strat.).

I'd like to do this myself, but I only have SSS strats now. The concentric pots I have coming in from overseas are meant for a HH tele, so I can wire it up like a LP.

the 500k tone for the bucker will work fine with a 250k master volume and give the bucker a little more cut than it would have with a 250k tone

Yeah, if you want a master vol, and most do, try a 250k for the master volume first. If it works for you then your fine. I'd bet it does.

+1

I find 300k is a good compromise.

Re: This whole pot value issue has me confused

Thank you! I will give the 250k volume a shot - really appreciate the feedback and help. Thanks!
