I saw the first one last week and was waiting for the rebuild video.
Question: Is that REALLY "$100" worth of upgrades...??? I'm thinking more like $150 used, AT LEAST $125.
The second video is a bit misleading. Darrel can do a video that's like, "Okay, today we're going to find out how many guitars a guy can build for free, just using Fender parts that a guy has lying around." At the end, he's like, "...Yeah, so it's pretty clear that a guy can build 8 Fender Partscasters for free; and, like, maybe 3 of 'em are actually pretty sweet! Thanks for watching!!!"
People who buy those things don't have ANY parts laying around...it's likely their first guitar.
But, I did learn something today. I'm not sure if I would have figured out that the binding in the bridge was caused by "full thread" screws. Maybe. Process of elimination / experimentation might have got me there. And I'm not a huge user of the tremolo, so I'm not afraid to leave a 6 point trem in a guitar instead of upgrading it just to say that I did. The stock one in the Indio Classic had to go, sure, but that's on the extreme end of badness...and I've already owned one "non-tonewood guitar," it was my first, and no reason to go back: "Johnson, by Axl." $125 on ebay with a 10 watt practice amp.
Also, I've never removed a logo from a headstock. Natural finish...??? I would have guessed that a guy would have to hit it with clear coat afterwards, even on a satin finish.
