I have several Tim Shaw Gibson PAF`s, and I was wondering about the stamped #`s on the back of them, I know the second set of #`s are the date code, but what are the first set? I have some that are 393 & 392, and some that are 499,189, and 409. does anyone know? also, the magnets on these are not longer as some claim, they are slightly thicker though.

Re: Tim Shaw PAF identification

You are right about the magnet, shaw used thicker ones, but unoriented magnets.
About the inked number: a lot of folks have only seen 137 and 138 numbers, often along with the silver sticker. So it would be interesting what dates have the different prefixes. Maybe we can see a timeline. The 137/138 shaws seems to made von 1980 to 1983, but there should be more pafs made in the time between 1984 to 1989, the birth of the '57 Classic (just my guess)!

Bump here

I've got a 82 or 84 Paul (can't remember have to check serial later at home)
I think I may have Shaws which I replaced with Duncan JB/59 long ago.
The stock Gibson pups have stamped # on the rear but no inked # like many other Shaws I see?

Re: Tim Shaw PAF identification

Shaws are also somewhat underwound. The ones I've had were all below 8K, mostly in the 7.3K-7.6K range.

Most of mine did not have inked numbers.
