Time for a new guitar

Hi all,

I'm on the lurk most of the time, but I'm after a bit of advice. I'm planning to get a new guitar soon to celebrate my new job. I really, really want a USA fender HH tele: http://www.fender.com/products/show.php?partno=0118700

but I'm wondering what my other options are. I have a few les pauls, a couple of random guitars and a PRS CU22, but I'm after something different. I don't have a fender as of yet, but I've sort of been getting into them recently after playing a few teles. I really like the feel, but I can't be doing without a humbucker at the bridge (it's just not me) so I reckon this guitar is my best bet.

I'm looking to spend about £1000 (about $1800?), definately a humbucker at the bridge, rosewood fingerboard. I've tried a few fat strats, but they didn't set the world on fire like the feel of a tele has done for me.

What do you guys think?

Jonathan :)

If you already have that many HH guitars in your arsenal I can't imagine you'll find anything in an HH Tele (other than the feel) that you don't already have. But if you're dead set on a 'bucker in the bridge, you might want to consider the American Deluxe Series.

It should still be below the $1800 mark and it'll give you the S-1 switching which will double your tonal options. I have the S-1 on my Fat Strat and it really offers some cool sounds, it's not just a gimmick. Good luck.

ooooohhhh that am dlx tele is very nice lookin!!!!!

Have you considered building a Warmoth guitar? You could get a Strat or Tele exactly the way you want it, with any type of pickups, bridge, neck, frets, etc. If I were in the market for a bolt-on guitar, I'd definitely go the Warmoth route.

you could go with a MM Axis Super Sport, which is basically a tele, but with higher quality woods, a much better (and playable) neck. They also sport a five position switch with some interesting coil combinations. Also, they are all built in a small factory here in California (unlike the massive factory down for Fender). You can also choose trem or non, and peizo pickup (shown on the left most guitar below)

the MM;s are great playing guitars, at a small shop recently i tried out a few, and they were darn nice.....plus the piezo could be really cool

Re: Time for a new guitar

Those musicmans are great guitars.

If I were you, I'd look at a regular tele and put something like a jb jnr or lil 59 in the bridge. That way you get a true single coil neck tone, which is something none of your other guitars have.

You also get a humbucking bridge, but more defined due to the smaller area sensed by the pickup. Humbucker mud mostly comes from the polepieces sensing the string at two different places, so the closer the coils are to each other, the more defined the sound. Nice for a tele.

Thanks, yes, I've tried a couple of MM's and they feel great to me. I really like the idea of a piezo bridge too. They're great fun. The problem is they're pretty pricy over here (UK), not to mention difficult to find, so I'll have to have a scout about and see what I can find :)

Looking at the Musik Produktiv website in Germany they seem to sell Melancon guitars at around 1,200 Euro. The dealer in England is:
