Time For A Upgrade

OK I am really a guitarist but I very occasionally play bass however I have now been invited to a band as a bassist and for this reason I see good reason to give the old bass a revamp.

I have a Stagg P-Bass I want to look at something that will give me a tone to fit in nicely with a metal band any advice on pickup choice anyone?

Re: Time For A Upgrade

Greetings from the bottom left hand corner of Wales.

Plenty of replacement pickups - passive or active - could fit the bill. It depends on how versatile you need the instrument to be. The obvious candidate from SD is the Quarter Pound model. From personal experience, I suggest the DiMarzio Will Power Middle position model or a Bartolini.

Going active may seem extravagant on a budget replica bass but it would open up many more possibilities. The SD/Basslines Lightning Rods P combines power with believable P Bass woodiness. The Pro Active is more modern sounding. Both benefit from multi-band EQ. My all-time favourite is the old Active EQ series pickups with the built-in DIP switches.
