Time to build my own

Recommendations? Here's the story thus far:

Friend wants to buy my 1972 Fender Twin Reverb for $600. It made me think about how I might make money off the deal if I found something else. I was wrong. I tried the Peavy valvetronix and hated it. Tried the Delta Blues amp and was impressed, but it was too dirty for my tastes (9 out of 10). Those little Gibson goldtone amps are also nice, but also too dirty for my tastes, and honestly too expensive for their size IMHO. Tried a Roland 60W keyboard amp and almost was tempted to get two of 'em for my amp, but the highs are just excessive due to the tweeter. I run an ME-50, so for the amps I ran amp-out line to amp. For the keyboard amps I ran the Line Out. (Only on Line Out is there any amp simulation, and it's only a simulation. The idea with the keyboard amps was to maybe have my own unique impossible-to-guess sound). I hate amp modelling with a passion, and my ME-50 doesn't have any of that except for Line Out, only for someone using headphones really....

So I'd like to build my own amp, if I can do it for $600 or less. I'm thinking two 12" speakers, two plain wooden boxes (for now, until maybe I paint them or put leather on them) with handles, etc. But I want tube amp, just ultra-clean. 5-15W will probably be just fine. As for tube amp class, I'm not sure, but I prefer a clean channel. Anyone have any experience in this? Suggestions? The only requirements are clean sound, 5-15W tube, 12" speaker (one per amp), sturdy, yet light enough to carry the two of them, one in each hand.

The best bang for low bucks is a Weber Kit. You can the entire enchilada for 6 bills or less on many of their designs.

Granted, you'll be using some chinese parts, but if you're on an extreme budget (and for a home brew, 600 is a minimal imo), this might be a great place to start.

There are several friendly forums where you can get support.

Well I mean what amp tube class? A? AB? I'm talking component choices, speakers, tubes, etc.

Bump...

So far, I'm finding that I want an Eminence Delta Pro 12A speaker, and I'm currently researching the cabinet I want. Solid wood is an option due to saving money on the outer coverigns, etc, because most amps are made of plywood anyways. So far, the cabinet needs to be 18x10x17.5" internally at a minimum for the speaker it will contain.

So I could just get a couple tube heads and call it a day. However, all I see is the Epiphone valve junior head (5W). Anyone know if I should solder my own head into the cabinet, or go with a cabinet/head of someone else? Let me know....
