Time to sell the Strat?

New member
Just bought a house, and I need some extra cash. Going to unload some gear, and I'm thinking of selling my Strat clone. It has fantastic action, is easy to play, sounds better than every other Strat that I played it head-to-head with...but I rarely play it. Instead I grab my Nashville Tele or one of my SGs. Am I cuckoo for letting the Strat go?

Well, if you can by without selling it then I would say keep it as it is the best Strat to you...I would say it is better to keep it and get through the cash crunch than to sell and regret it later. Just my thoughts

Nah, get rid of it, who needs a Strat? I'm kidding, but I understand your dilemma. If you have other guitars you prefer though, then there is probably no harm in letting one go.

I wish, but my accountant isn't going to let it slip, haha!

Strats are such simply built guitars yet so unreasonably difficult to get just right.

This. To the -nth degree.

When I lost my job in 2008 I had to sell off the Dodge Charger I had bought less than 2yrs before, my bike, and all my guitars and amps. Since getting back on my feet, have bought other cars and don't really •want• a motorcycle anymore, but one of my guitars was an 80s Fernandes strat, was actually my first electric. I miss that thing more than I thought I would, and it's not as replaceable as any of it because it meant something to me. Keep the guitar if you can.

Thanks. You are absolutely right about the difficulty of getting a guitar that is set up just "right"...and for some reason this Strat has it. I played it back-to-back with my Tele tonight. They both sound great, albeit different. One really can't replace the other in the tone department. So I'm going to keep it :)

Get rid of guitars as much as you want, just keep in mind outstanding ones are not easily replaceable.

If you like it don't get rid of it. I'm sure almost everyone of us has some horrible story about how we needed some cash, sold or pawned a guitar, then never got it back, and hates themselves for doing it now! I had a beautiful Gibson L-6S & its original case. It was a 76 I think, when I was about 17, I needed some cash and ended up selling it. Instant regrets, & they've only gotten worse over the years! Do you know what that guitar would be worth if I still had it or what I'd do to get my hands on it again? Keep it!!!!!

Its not like there aren't a million strats out there when you want another one.

+1 to this, they're getting worse too.... The last one I bought new was a horrible experience, I went through 4 of them before I got 1 that was in decent playing condition & didn't have ant neck heal cracking. Buying new ones online is like digging through the bargain bin, there's probably a good one in there somewhere but you have to dig through a bunch of garbage first! I didn't have to pay return shipping or anything but it was still a huge PIA! I think after I sent back the third one they realized I wasn't going to be happy until I got one without any problems so they did some digging for me, it had to cost them a fortune in shipping costs for them going back and forth several times???

Its just a guitar. Guitars are replaceable and less clutter in our lives is always good.
Still, it is nice to have a choice of axes in the house, so i guess you have to weigh up whether the money you make from selling a strat copy is really going to make much difference long term....like in 12 months or 5 years.

Definitely keep it if you can. Not only does the regret never go away, but even worse you could end up buying Strats that aren't as good trying to replace it (I've done this way too many times). There's nothing worse that getting rid of a great one and then "chasing" it later!

This forum is constantly littered with people expressing remorse about having previously sold an amazing guitar/ amp/ pedal and having regretted it ever since.

Don't be one of those people. You can learn from their mistakes rather than making your own.

You say it's a strat clone. How much would you get for it? Do you have guitars which you'll get more for? Why keep other guitars that you have? Any other gear, amps etc, which you could sell?
If you sell others that we worth more then you'd have less choice and play the strat more.
